[MacOS] Window server hogs CPU when vivaldi is running
-
Hi,
i "need" to use Vivaldi on a MacBook Pro (MacOS 10.15). My problem is that recently the fan is constantly and annoyingly blowing when Vivaldi is running. Looking at the acvtivity monitor it's not vivaldi itself, it's the window server process which has highest load. Even with only one tab (e.g. vivaldi home page).
So any hints how to avoid that? I don't need fancy stuff. Thanks,
Felix. -
@fesc2000 Have you updated to 10.15.6?

I am on 10.15.6 and I see the same issues.
Between Renderer, GPU, and the Mac OS windowserver Vivaldi hammers my CPU.Battery Drain is significant and even when plugged in the performance is fairly laggy. Both Edge and Chrome run much smoother on Mac OS at this tine.

Have people installed the 2nd release of 10.15.6 (10.15.6 Supplemental Update (it is also a big file update and the macOS Check for updates will let you know if you are missing it)?
In Vivaldi settings under appearance try disabling use animation see if that helps a little and under Webpages try Hardware acceleration on and off.
Any extensions in use?

The update 10.15.7 seems to make the problem less severe to me. This can be just a coincidence and it is definitely just my subjective perception. I don't have any objective data.
Nevertheless, the window server together with a few "Vivaldi Helpers" (both "Renderers" and "GPUs") sometimes hogs CPU and makes the fan roar.
In such a case, I click on a simple page (like "Start Page") and right-click on "hibernate background tabs". The Vivaldi processes will then keep running high for 5--10 seconds before reducing their CPU use eventually.
By the way, and this may well be a separate issue, but when I hit the "Take A Break" button, a few Vivaldi Helpers start to hog CPU and stay like that for ~10 seconds. This problem hasn't seemed to become less severe after the OS upgrade.
