Arch/Manjaro PKGBUILD
-
My apologies if this is the wrong place to request this but I wasn't able to find an alternative. Is there any plans to include a PKGBUILD to the download page for Arch based distributions? There are a few variations in the AUR but none of them seem to run quite right. A designated PKGBUILD for Vivaldi from Vivaldi would be amazing to see. Also, I am aware that .deb and .rpm packages can be converted so they may be installed on Arch/Manjaro systems but the ability to download a PKGBUILD directly from softwares site is always a nice thing.

I use the official .sh script on my Manjaro machine. It doesn't auto-update, but the latest snapshot is just an
install-vivaldi.sh
call away. -
@sorteal Use the
herecura
repo. Follow @potmeklecbohdan 's excellent guide:
https://potmeklecbohdan.vivaldi.net/341/installing-vivaldi-on-arch-linux/Ike [Black Eagle] is a long-time trusted Arch maintainer & Dev -- he's already done all the hard work for us. This method is superior to using AUR, & also means that all ongoing system updates that you do when you
sudo pacman -Syyu
will automatically include your V-SS &/or V-S. -

-Syyu
I may have misunderstood it, but after reading the warning here I either
-Syu
or-Syyuu
coz it should be safer. -
@potmeklecbohdan It's deliberate that i do that. Over the past several years in the MJ forum [before they recently destroyed it] this has been the source of strident opinions & vehement disagreements. There was one point in time that
-Syyu
was "flavour of the month" & that's what i adopted.I know that lately the "flavour of the month" became
-Syu
, but that is dangerous for me & i refuse to use it routinely, because... all the way down here in UpsideDownLand the mirrors are severely crappy, rarely up to date quickly, & slow. Hence, each time i am ready to do my half-weekly or weekly updates the first thing i do is runsudo reflector --protocol https --verbose --latest 10 --fastest 5 --sort rate --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
. If i were to then use-Syu
afaik i would run a severe risk of breakage from a partial update, whereas using "my" command forces the resync first, avoiding the risk. When the Arch News, or a forum or other sourse, informs me that one or more packages need a downgrade, then i do instead use
-Syyuu
... but for me that is comparatively rare.It is a certainty IMO that other Archers will vociferously disagree with me, but this schema has been working fine for me.

@Steffie thank you very much. This was extremely useful.
