bing / translator no longer works
-
I used to use bing.com/translator on almost a daily basis. Lately I have found that:
-
I cannot reach bing.com/translator
-
I am redirected to can't find the server at www.translatetheweb.com
A quick "whois" and "tracert" seems to indicate this is site based in the MS campus... but now:
C:\Users\xyz> whois translatetheweb.com. Whois v1.21 - Domain information lookup Copyright (C) 2005-2019 Mark Russinovich Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com Connecting to .whois-servers.net... No such host is known.
Perhaps MS is no longer there(?).
Any others having issues?
[EDIT] Same with FF and PaleMoon so I know it is not a problem with Vivaldi.
[EDIT2] Only for business customers now???? -
-
@Gwen-Dragon That looks like what I got yesterday... Today a different story.
[EDIT] Perhaps their servers are just unreliable. -
now sysinternals whois is working.
must be server or site issues. -
...Then use DeepL, the best translation tool in the world:
-
@stardepp I have always found bing translator superior to the goole one.
Have not used DeepL... will give it a try.
Many Thanks for the tip. -
Apparently it now requires some:
"Web Translator has been largely replaced by Bing Translator, the dedicated Translator apps and plugins and integrations of Translator into other Microsoft products such as the Microsoft Office suite apps, Microsoft Edge web browser, SwiftKey and more"
Perhaps if if is an Edge add-on it may be able to be imported to Vivaldi or Chromium? (Wishful thinking on my part ;).) -
Have you tried the Google translator.
I have just arrived at Vivaldi so I guess Bing is the favoured search engine?
-
@bscho I have found it is not nearly as good as Bing. There is another I have started using, DeepL, mentioned previously in this topic that seems pretty good. I have been using it.
-
@Gwen-Dragon Thanks. Seems to work on Android today.
Perhaps they've gotten too many complaints regarding their switch to 'Web Translator'. (Where I was redirected.)
I've several conversations with M&S regarding this topic. They may be putting it off 'till they've got all straightened out. -
