Establishing Secure Connection takes forever!
-
Hey guys. I've noticed in the last few updates that now when I attempt to connect to secure websites (which is pretty much everything) it will take a very long time. Sometimes this lag is upwards of 15+ seconds. This may also result in a DNS error as well. Tried going to the same websites via other browsers and everything works as expected.
Things I've tried:
- Checked/disabled extensions (no impact)
- Ping'd servers (up and running with minimal latency)
- Changed my DNS servers locally. (no impact)
Things that I tried that actually worked:
- Used another browser (works without issue)
Anyone else having to wait for long times when trying to connect to secure sites? This is a great browser but this issue is extremely aggravating to say the least.

Hi, this was reported from a few user and I have this sometimes (Never 15 seconds).
If all Vivaldi user had the same problem forum were bombed with hundreds of posts.
No idea if one report this to the bug tracker, may be a developer can reproduce it.Cheers, mib

To answer your questions...
broken Vivaldi browser profile - sometimes does it from there as well.
Security software in your PC - I don't use any security software or Anti Virus Software
Router firewall filter - Everything looks and works fine. Sites work 100% in other browsers
Please check your router log - Nothing notable
Proxy/VPN access - I don't use a proxy or VPNs
Problems with your ISP - Other 20 systems in my office work great
Check traceroute - Tracert comes back and resolves majority of hops on various sites.

@mib2berlin 15 seconds is the longest one I've seen so far. I agree and looked to see if others had posted this issue. Seems strange that other browsers will work great without delay and only vivaldi seems to have this issue. Had been working fine before v3.0. This not only happens on my office PC but also at my home machine and laptop as well.

I have the same wait time with many sites but usually its 5-7 seconds. I tried the guest mode and the first site I tried was insanely slow with loading assets but then some others may have been faster so its inconclusive and will need more tests. I don't have this with other browsers on the same system. The Vivaldi install on my other PC (that's slow) is also V3 but because the APU is slow I can't tell lol. I have V3 on a Linux Mint install so when I get around to using that I can test more.

@MindStateTrain No wait times here, at all. Something local to your machine or network.
-
@Ayespy I tried element.io in my guest mode window and it loaded instantly where on my main profile the wait was 6 seconds. So what do I do if its my profile? I don't want to restart another and have to migrate all my settings, history over.
-
@MindStateTrain There's no switch-flip or magic wand solution for such ill-defined problems. No one can know what to fix, because there's no way to know (without extensive investigation) what's wrong.
Take a look at how to refresh your profile. It's very fast and easy to do, and offers a possible solution.
-
@MindStateTrain To avoid a full profile refresh, follow the steps of the troubleshooting guide:
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/troubleshooting-issues/Make special not of disabling extensions and security software that might interfere.
-
@Pathduck Don't forget - a full profile refresh is actually a fairly trivial amount of work in the end - and disabling extensions does not always get their fingers out of the mix. Sometimes they must be uninstalled. Same with most types of security software.

Disabling TLS 1.3 Early Data in the Vivaldi flags seemed to fix this for me.
