YouTube Not Autoplaying When Switching to Tab Opened with Middle Click or Context Menu
-
On YouTube, clicking on a video brings up the content and begins playing it immediately. In Opera and Chrome, when videos are opened in new tabs by a middle click or the context menu, they also begin playing immediately when you switch to the tab. With Vivaldi, the videos don't autoplay when switching to the tab.
I am fairly certain that this isn't some option I have enabled on YouTube, but I did take a quick look at the options for a non-signed in account, and I didn't see anything.
I also looked at vivaldi://flags and did some Googling, but I am still stumped. A simple Chrome extension could fix this, but it seems like I might just be missing something.
Does anyone else have similar behavior on YouTube? Or is there a setting to get videos to autoplay when switching to the new tab containing the video?

@nomadic Open Settings and search for "audio"
-
Often have to click reload several times before a video will open. Do not have this behavior with other browsers.
I'm just living with it for now. No problem with video
once it opens. -
@nomadic I have found that much of the freezing issue
is due to YouTube itself. Also do not run Adblock or Adblock+ with Vivaldi. Vivaldi's built in ad blockers alone cause problems. -
@Pesala All I found when searching audio was "
Mute Tab Audio
." I am pretty sure that isn't related to the issue I am having, but I did try all 3 options with restarting the browser after each change and I saw no difference. I will leave it on "Play All Audio
" where I had it initially. The issue isn't about audio cutting out when I switch tabs, it is just that I am too lazy to click the play button (or hit k on my keyboard) on videos. Generally, I will go to the YouTube homepage and open all the videos I want to watch in new background tabs. I just don't want to have to click play on the video when I switch to the tab to watch it because I have gotten used to doing this using Opera.

@justnd I am not actually having any issues with the video loading or freezing. It just isn't autoplaying.
The videos opened in new tabs or even from pasting a YouTube video URL don't play automatically. They look like this:
I am just being lazy and don't want to click play or type k to start the videos.
-
@nomadic I cannot reproduce the problem. I also have it set to Play All Audio, and videos in background tabs start playing as soon as I switch to make the tab active.

@Pesala I just tried a new guest window, and it does indeed autoplay...
I have tried disabling all my extensions, removing my js mods, turning off the Content Blocker, and deleting all the cookies associated with YouTube, but still no luck. Guess I messed something up in my settings. I just can't figure out what.
-
@nomadic Have you checked your YouTube settings?
What about on other video platforms?
-
@Pesala Sorry, I edited my last post. I did clear all my YouTube cookies, so the default settings that let the guest window work, should let the non-guest window work.
With Dailymotion, videos opened in new tabs or background tabs do autoplay.
I also just now tried resetting any flags I have changed, and still nothing.
