Vivaldi vs Brave: Crypto and Vivaldi
-
Is there any chance of Vivaldi implementing crypto-currency? Brave uses the 'Basic Attention Token' (BAT)
I love all the features that Vivaldi has and am sold on using it. Brave browser only draws me in because I can earn BAT as I use it. If there were a way to have Vivaldi operate the same way as Brave I would jump straight to it right away.
Devs, is there anything like this in the works?
Thanks!

Brave would be more appealing if the Brave Rewards program wasn't a hot mess. So many problems for me in my trial with it ... it's rather unbelievable that Brave is considered stable software ... for me it's an Alpha project, at best, Beta.
Vivaldi's features save me time over any other browser, and as the old saying goes, "Time is money." Better than BAT in Brave that sometimes comes, but often goes away inexplicably because of extreme bugginess.

A better second Browser is UR. At least for me, far superior to Brave. It's also fairly new from a small French company, highly customizable, fast, and with bomb-proof security and privacy, including an AV for downloads and an optional VPN (paid, provided by Express). Also based in Chromium. Block ads, trackers and fingerprints.

I have tried Brave and personally find it lacking for what I do. Vivaldi comes much closer to what I need, rewards or no.
Actually, Vivaldi rewards me every day, just by being here on my computer and tablet.
Also the crypto market is a pretty "iffy" place for me. I don't think I want to be there (at least not now). -

I was about to post the same and I can only quote you.

@dbrewood , (??) I have no problem with UR. Certainly the handling in the configuration is not very intuitive (Moods) and naturally it does not have as many functions as Vivaldi. But apart from this it works very well and fulfills what was promised in terms of protection, as can be seen in Browserleaks Another test is, although it supports extensions from the Chrome Store, it is not possible to do it without deactivating the crawling blockers first, because if not, Chrome does not recognize it as a Chromium browser and nor does it allow anonymous access, by default in UR.
It is perhaps somewhat annoying for normal use, but as a second browser in cases where good protection is needed it is perfect -

I checked the ur browser b4 downloading. I always do so when it’s something I have never heard of.
- I didn’t find anything later than 2019. Is it obsolete? (The link above is from 2017) Their FB page latest post is from 11/4/2019. If that means anything.

@tonyd1 , last post from November 2019 and web from 2020. AdaptiveBee is a very small team, less than Vivaldi

@iAN-CooG They say (I don't know who they are(?)) Great Minds think alike.

@azorian If Vivaldi's going to do something like this, I think it would probably be better to just use Brave's system.
To be clear: I didn't say "a system like Brave's", I said "Brave's system". In other words: The Vivaldi company would talk to the Brave company, and make a deal to add Brave's ad/crypto-currency system as a strictly optional Vivaldi feature.
-
@azorian I do not like BAT. It seems like a useless distraction. It is not good for users because it is a small amount of money and too big a distraction, not good for content providers because users have little incentive to donate, only good for Brave because they get unclaimed BAT and sponsored crypto deals. How about a decentralized paywall instead:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/60844/suggested-business-model-vivaldi-as-a-subscription-brokerIf you do want this ask brave to make a chromium extension. They haven't ruled this out yet, I believe.

Hence, why I suggested that it be a strictly optional Vivaldi feature (if it becomes a Vivaldi feature at all). And on that note, shouldn't this thread be in the "Feature Requests" folder instead of the "Browsers" folder?

Yes, but this user is gone now it seems.
-
@eggcorn Business model is not a browser feature.
-
@azorian I do have the same thinking way and using Brave for the BATs nowadays, but i don't know if Vivaldi uses the same idea from what a browser is.
