Vivaldi's new update keeps crashing it.
-
Everything was working fine until last update.now as soon as Vivaldi opens it crashes.I have restarted PC and even tried to open Vivaldi in private mode but same result.
im on windows 10 64bit pro 1909.right now using Edge -
i had experienced the same issue. After the update, I open the browser and it close immediately.
-
Try opening Vivaldi with the any of the extra command line arguments:
--disable-extensions
--guest
Another thing to try is to rename your profile folder which is usually:
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default
Rename it to for instance "default.old" and launch Vivaldi. This should generate a clean profile, then at least we know it's something in the profile.Are any dump files generated in either of these folders?
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Crashpad\reports
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\CrashDumps
If so these can be attached to the email reply after reporting a bug and the team will investigate the cause:
https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/Also check if
vivaldi.exe
might still be running in Task Manager under details and if so terminate them and try again. -
Thx for quick reply @Pathduck ,after disabling extension I am able to run Vivaldi,so it could mean that problem might be with some extension conflict ,but since extensions are disabled how can I enable one by one to check what is causing problem?
-
@jimfbk but I am not able to enable extensions now as I have started Vivaldi with disabled arguments. If I go to extensions it shows nothing now.
-
@iam1simpleguy Yeah, that's a good question
Bit of a Catch-22, but from what I know, two ways:
-
The supported but long-winded way: Launch Vivaldi with the argument
--disable-extensions-except
and the full path to the extension folder under your profile path. Example:
vivaldi.exe --disable-extensions-except="c:\Users\Stian\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Extensions\bhchdcejhohfmigjafbampogmaanbfkg\0.3.5_0"
Yeah, it's a mess to do but you can do this one by one until you find the culprit. Unless of course, it's two extensions causing it together
(solution from https://superuser.com/a/1152957/18736) -
The hacky (and probably likely to mess something up) way: Move all the folders out of the extensions folder and then copy them back in one by one. I wouldn't recommend this as not sure what would happen, most likely it will just redownload the extension again. Or remove the extension from your profile completely.

@Pathduck OR try the
--guest
flag. Then click the profile icon right of the address bar, Exit Guest Session, and choose your default profile. It might definitely crash but if you're lucky maybe it's stable when launched this way and then you can enter the extensions page... -
@Pathduck
After the crash i restored the previous version of Vivaldi and deactivated all extensions,then i updated Vivaldi again.
After the update Vivaldi started normally and i activated the extensions one by one.
The crash occurs with the Hola Free VPN Proxy Unblocker extension
Deactivating Hola Free VPN Proxy Unblocker extension, Vivaldi works -
@mobbastaveramente That might work, but the Vivaldi devs have been very clear that downgrading versions is not supported and might risk messing up your profile in subtle ways. But if you're willing to take the risk...
-
@Pathduck
I use a standalone version of Vivaldi
I not downgraded the Vivaldi version, after the crash i restored the previous version,
deactivated all the extenson and then i updated Vivaldi again with the new version -
@mobbastaveramente I have the same. Due to the extension of Hola Free VPN Proxy Unblocker. I just caught a crash. I barely as I went into the browser. To do this, I needed to turn off the Internet. And then the extension. I hope this is fixed. Sorry for my English.

same issue here.
i'll try to solve it when i get back to my laptop. i think the nordvpn extension is the problem in my case. i'll have a look at it.
-
@OrionRion thx for nice tip and it worked.I also had this intuition that hola might be the culprit and yes it is.Just as u suggested i turned of internet and then disabled HOLA and now vivaldi is back with OLA OLA.
It worked and thx again.thx for ur help @Pathduck with all ur suggestions but now all is fine. -
Yep, the same issue with the Hola VPN extension. Removed its folder, then opened the browser and turned it off, reinstalled the extension, now it works fine.

confirmed. nordvpn and vivaldi 3.0 don't get on well with each other. );

From what you guys are saying, this certainly sounds more serious than just some random buggy extensions causing crashes.
I hope you guys are reporting these issues to the bug tracker, if it impacts a lot of users hopefully the team will fix it in the next patch.

I also experience the same crash with Hola extension
!!! -
Turn of internet, start Vivaldi and then deactivate Hola, was the only thing which worked for me.
I hope it will be fixed in the next update. -
Mine is crashing when Windscribe VPN extension is enabled
