I posted a quick review on Slashdot…
-
I don't do social media or anything but I do participate in a number of online communities. (Often the username is the same.) So, I figured I'd throw a quick and dirty review up (more an encouragement to take a look at Vivaldi in typical Slashdot style) and figured it was worth mentioning here. http://slashdot.org/journal/2492305 There's the link. We're mostly sane, rational, and fairly normal people but some of us have our eccentricities so, if they do come visit, allow me to apologize for their behavior ahead of time. :cheer: Some of them are even talented and may have some good opinions. Who knows? I'd say that I'm moderately well known there (at least a frequent poster) so there may be a few people who take a look. It's not submitted as a main page submission or anything. So it won't make it to the main page and your site is safe from the /. effect. I didn't figure it was well written enough to actually submit it for consideration. I may write up another article some time and submit that just to see where it goes. I'll do a much better job at it if I do.

Also, I can't help but notice you guys have a default link to Slashdot in your bookmarks. That is awesome. You know, it's kind of like poking the bear, right? There's not a whole lot of difference between /. and /b/, after all.
But, like I said, most of us are sane, rational, and even have girlfriends and bathe. I've met a bunch of them in the real world. There are others I'd not even consider meeting.

KGIII: Are you using the TP4 that you get from the link on the front page, or the latest snapshot (some eleven or twelve updates newer) that you you can get from the Vvialdi Team Blog https://vivaldi.net/en-US/ ?
-
Am I sure? Nope… In fact, it looks like I may not.
When I check the version I get:
vivaldi --version Vivaldi 44.0.2403.75
In "about" (in the application) I get:
1.0.219.50 (Developer Build) (64-bit)
On the linked page it indicates:
Snapshot 1.0.291.18
It appears I have the non-snapshot version. I'll download that and see what happens. It can't break much so I'm game. I'll be back!!! chuckles

I grabbed the vivaldi-snapshot from the PPA and it matches the version listed on the front page. It still needed to be loaded with the switch to disable composting and it's still happily throwing the same errors. However, it's much snappier and, for lack of a better word, tighter feeling. I browsed a little bit before returning. I'm impressed, I really am. I have high hopes for Vivaldi. Heck, I used to pay for Opera back in the day.
Anyhow, 'tis still fun to poke and play. I'll see if there is anything I can do on my end. I've not yet tested it in a VM to replicate this with the snapshot.
-
Just to be sure, newest snapshot is 1.0.291.18.
There are two "front pages." There is the Vivaldi**.com** front page to which is linked the TP4 technical preview (1.0.169 or something?) and the Vivaldi**.net** front page which is the blog with the latest snapshot.

Speaking of fun … the word is compositing.
Obviously, some hardware works and some doesn't. They might be interested in a list of which ones cause problems.

That's the word I was looking for. I should have some time this week to give it a drive-by on a few different platforms. I'm poking at the beta, currently.
