(Sorry this is so long - it's apparently complex...)

      I have:
      [loren@Gazp9 ~]$ pacman -Qe vivaldi
      vivaldi 2.8.1664.44-1
On Antergos/Arch Linux, OS newly updated.

Note that the AUR package is newer:
      https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/vivaldi/

      Package Details: vivaldi 2.11.1811.47-1
      It checks the repo:
      blackeagle-pre-community 1420.0 B 462 KiB/s 00:00 [###########################################] 100%
But update says "nothing to do".

Vivaldi began crashing last night, at first when I tried to watch this particular video:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kber63T-G4E&feature=youtu.be
It would play for maybe ten seconds and then show the dead bird.

After a few tries it was crashing completely:

      -- Subject: Process 2354 (vivaldi-bin) dumped core
      -- Defined-By: systemd
      -- Support: https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/systemd-devel
      -- Documentation: man:core(5)
      --
-- Process 2354 (vivaldi-bin) crashed and dumped core.
      --
-- This usually indicates a programming error in the crashing program and
-- should be reported to its vendor as a bug.

      Stack trace of thread 17:
... (traces for a couple dozen threads, no clues I recognize.)

      Today I found:
      https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/27380/crash-log-report-submission-under-linux

      vivaldi -sustart

This try closed by itself and dumped core soon after I hit F12 and saw the dev tools:

Try to start with vivaldi --disable-gpu , if that works, you have a OpenGL/GPU driver issue.

This try stayed active with dev tools open, I tried to open the video that failed last night, it played for a few seconds, then the dead bird - on the video tab, and on the Pocket tab that had linked to it!

      [loren@Gazp9 ~]$ vivaldi-stable --disable-gpu -sustart

Preferences and Local App Settings\mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli – Vivaldi settings and configuration.
In the system window delete the entire User Data / Vivaldi folder.

      No such folder...

      Search found these:

      [loren@Gazp9 bin]$ sudo find / -name 'mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli'
      /home/loren/.config/vivaldi/Default/Storage/ext/mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli

      /home/loren/.cache/vivaldi/Default/Storage/ext/mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli

Deleted all of them - many customizations gone, but same fail.

I thought I'd just remove and re-install Vivaldi, but pacman can't seem to find it:

      [loren@Gazp9 bin]$ pacman -S -i vivaldi-2.8.1664.44-1
error: package 'vivaldi-2.8.1664.44-1' was not found
      [loren@Gazp9 bin]$ pacman -S -i vivaldi
error: package 'vivaldi' was not found
      [loren@Gazp9 bin]$ pacman -S -i vivaldi-stable
error: package 'vivaldi-stable' was not found

      Except this finds it:

      [loren@Gazp9 ~]$ pacman -Qe vivaldi
      vivaldi 2.8.1664.44-1

How was it installed? No clue, but some old logs show it:

      [2018-11-09 15:09] [ALPM] upgraded vivaldi (2.0.1309.29-1 -> 2.1.1337.36-1)

      [loren@Gazp9 ~]$ sudo pacman -Syu
      Packages (283)
      ...
      vivaldi-2.2.1388.34-1

      Find sees:

      /var/lib/pacman/local/vivaldi-2.8.1664.44-1
      /var/cache/pacman/pkg/vivaldi-2.2.1388.34-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

      /usr/share/xfce4/helpers/vivaldi.desktop
      /usr/share/applications/vivaldi-stable.desktop
      /usr/bin/vivaldi-stable

So pacman must have seen it in the past...

      Another view:

      [loren@Gazp9 bin]$ pacman -D -k -v vivaldi
      Root : /
      Conf File : /etc/pacman.conf

      GPG Dir : /etc/pacman.d/gnupg/
      Targets : vivaldi
No database errors have been found!

      And another:

      [loren@Gazp9 bin]$ sudo pacman -U -v vivaldi
      Root : /
      Conf File : /etc/pacman.conf
      DB Path : /var/lib/pacman/
      Cache Dirs: /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
      Hook Dirs : /usr/share/libalpm/hooks/ /etc/pacman.d/hooks/
      Lock File : /var/lib/pacman/db.lck
      Log File : /var/log/pacman.log
      GPG Dir : /etc/pacman.d/gnupg/
      Targets : vivaldi-stable
      loading packages...
error: could not open file vivaldi-stable: Unrecognized archive format
error: 'vivaldi-stable': cannot open package file

Interesting that only "vivaldi-stable --disable-gpu -sustart" works. Using just "vivaldi --disable-gpu -sustart" says "not found".

      Back to testing Vivaldi...
      I found:
Select Webpages, uncheck 'Use Hardware Acceleration When Available'

Without the --disable-gpu -sustart, it crashed quickly.

With it, it didn't core dump. but still got dead birds:

      [loren@Gazp9 ~]$ vivaldi-stable --disable-gpu -sustart

It played some videos, but not that one. And Twitter crashed to the dead bird almost instantly every time.

I have no idea what it is saying about Flash. When I go to
      https://help.vivaldi.com/article/install-flash-player-for-vivaldi/
      and click
      https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
It crashes to the dead bird most of the time, but occasionally says:
      You have 32,0,0,330 installed.

This system was solid for months until this week. I installed "shairplay" to receive Apple Airplay from my phone, and everything has been unpredictable since.

      Help!

@LorenAmelang Antergos is discontinued, they packaged vivaldi in their own repo's hence you have such an out of date version of vivaldi on your system. Most updates come from Arch Linux upstream, so you end up with compatibility issues.

You should check your pacman.conf if you still have antergos specific repo's in there and switch to upstream Arch Linux. I thought they released a statement how to remove the antergos repos and move to Arch Linux upstream. Note that Arch Linux official repo's don't have vivaldi in it yet, therefore you can use my repo: https://repo.herecura.eu (the herecura repo has vivaldi)

Thank you so much @Gwen-Dragon and @BlackIkeEagle! I hadn't heard a word about Antergos disappearing, guess I'm too busy to notice such things until they become problems. Even their Wayback Machine presence is inaccessible - just continually redirects.

So I fixed my pacman config:

          All the recommendations for adding

          [arch]
          SigLevel = PackageRequired
          Include = /etc/pacman.d/arch-mirrorlist

          and

          /etc/pacman.d/arch-mirrorlist
          Server = https://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch

          just created errors:

error: failed retrieving file 'arch.db' from mirrors.kernel.org : The requested URL returned error: 404
error: failed to update arch (failed to retrieve some files)

This was already in pacman.conf, and gets all the Arch files

          [core]
          Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

I just needed to remove the Antergos stuff and add
          (as shown in https://repo.herecura.eu/)

          [herecura]
          packages built against core
          Server = https://repo.herecura.be/herecura/x86_64

(Guess there is no way to include the 'pound' comment symbol before "packages" without making it huge type and breaking the code or quote style... ???)

sudo pacman -Syyuu updated a few things, including Vivaldi.

          sudo /opt/vivaldi/update-ffmpeg
          sudo /opt/vivaldi/update-widevine

And I have a working Vivaldi! Even plays "that" video!

I wonder if any of the other recent problems are fixed...

          Thanks again!
