Spacebar suddenly doesn't scroll page

Suddenly the spacebar no longer scrolls any page.
I tried a different keyboard, no difference.
I tried different browsers, the spacebar works.
The spacebar works as "space" in Vivaldi text boxes and address bars.
I tried a new user profile in Vivaldi, spacebar works.
I tried disabling the extensions, still doesn't work.
I have tried unchecking/rechecking "spacebar for Fast Foward". no diff.
I tried respeccing the keyboard shortcuts for page down and up. Currently there is nothing listed there for them, and the spacebar does not register a new shortcut in the box; nothing happens.
I renamed the preferences file. When I opened V. a new file was created and the spacebar worked.
I then closed V, installed the original preferences file, and the spacebar did not work.
Then I went back to the new preferences file, which I had saved, and now the spacebark did NOT work with it.

I think this means I have a profile problem that is not in the extensions. It seems V is messing up the preferences file, even a fresh one. Anyone have any insight into this? Thanks.

I've now restored the entire profile from yesterday, and the SB still is not working.

I can not confirm the scrolling issue. It works for scrolling and for going to the next page (double hit on space bar)

My suggestion is to run a clean profile, it's temporary (it won't messed up your system wide install)

Assuming you are running the Stable, please, open the terminal and issue and following command

/usr/bin/vivaldi-stable --user-data-dir="/tmp/VIV-TST" &

In case the spacebar works in the new install, then the issue lies on your profile folder.

A HA!!!!!! This is indeed the one setting that I changed in recent days, which I had forgotten about doing. It was on Disable, to which I've now returned it. I bet this is the problem. (It's been sporadic; very hard to nail down.) Will get back.

This nailed it, after a restart. Thanks much, Gwen. It probably would have taken me a month to unearth that little setting.
