Performance issues with google maps

Hi, every time I go to google maps it takes anywhere between 3 to 5 seconds before I'm able to move around the screen smoothly, before that it will lag very badly with any movement input. I have tested this with all extensions disabled and this is the only browser with this type of issue (compared to opera, firefox and edge).

I'm using a 980m with i7-4710 and here are my current gpu settings:

Truthfully this does not only happen with google maps but other things with similar rendering such as trading charts (example tradingview.com), but not as consistently as google maps. Is there anything I can do to increase my performance in Vivaldi?

@PrestoTiesto Impossible to give anything but general advice without sitting in front of your machine. You are on laptop hardware so that's a limiting factor in itself, compared to a desktop machine, But it's a good machine nonetheless.

Obvious advice is obvious:

Look at your OS memory usage, try to reduce the number of background applications.
Close other applications using CPU.
Reduce the number of extensions you're using.
Find tabs/extensions using CPU in the browser's Task Manager (press Shift-ESC)
Use tools like Process Explorer to look in more detail at your system performance.

I have no issues with Google Maps, moving around and zooming is smooth. And this is on a 2015-spec desktop (gaming) system:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, 10.0.18363 Build 18363

Try running a web basemark in a fullscreen window, with no other tabs or apps running, and see what results you get. I just ran it with some minor background stuff and got:

desktop using Windows 10.0 with Chrome 80.0.3987.88
score:1158.57

Hi, I have no lag at all on my main system with Win 10 i5 GTX 760 nor on my laptop with Linux i7 and Intel HD 4000.
Your laptop is very performant and Vivaldi work snappy on mine, hm.
You can use a guest profile which is absolute "fresh", may something in your profile is broken.
Tested maps, streetview and graph page.
GPU status looks good.

@Pathduck I received a 1063 which is better than my other browsers. After a fresh install it is similar, but experienced performance has increased.

Appreciate the feedback from both of you with hardware stats for comparison and for confirming it's something on my end. I did a fresh install and it seems to work much better now, maybe some of my settings were wrong or some extensions had caused some issues. Thanks!

@Pathduck cool test site. So a higher score is better? I just ran this on my phone in Vivaldi Android Bets, without closing other apps or tabs (91 tabs open).

✓ Test run was completed without issues

I guess. I would also assume it also depends a lot on resolution, like all graphics tests. Rendering stuff at 4K is obviously be a lot more taxing than at 1080p. I run at 1440p.

But wait - you're running 91 tabs on your mobile browser ??

I got 351.01 on this one. If we're still comparing e-peens
