How to change default email client in Vivaldi/Win10?
-
Great Browser! I used Avant for years and it was just too buggy. Nice find here.
I use Dreammail as my email client. When clicking on a mail link in Vivaldi, it tries to install Outlook. I see no options in the browser and I've gone into Windows settings/default apps and it doesn't give Dreammail as an option.
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm well versed in the registry if need be.
Thanks.

From your description, it seems like Dreammail didn't/doesn't install itself into Windows with an installation option to make itself default for eMail. Vivaldi attempts to use the Windows default eMail program, but not finding any, Windows auto-offers to install Microsoft's Outlook.
Moreover, in the past, Windows upgrades have been known to break some of the default settings for various app programs, so even if Dreammail once was default, that may have been lost in a Win upgrade.I don't have Dreammail installed here, but you might check among its built-in options/settings to see if there's an internal option to register itself as the default program for eMails in the OS. Otherwise, if you go into the Control Panel to Programs > Default Programs > Set Your Default Programs, at the bottom of the Settings panel that opens, click on "Set defaults by app", then locate and click on Dreammail > Manage. What do you see? To operate as a default eMail program, it needs to at least be set as default for .eml files and MAILTO protocols.

Thanks for the reply.
In Dreammail's options/settings, there is a 'eml' checkbox under 'Associate file, use Dreammail to open it directly'. This feature worked properly in Win7, using Avant. (Not sure if I even had it checked in Win7).
Dreammail is set as the default mail program.
In Win settings/apps, it offers Outlook, Vivaldi or 'look for an app in MS store' (no Dreammail). In Default apps by file type, I have 'Email Client' checked.
I am using an older version of Dreammail because I like the look of it. I should try the latest version again and see if that takes care of this issue.
I recently had to upgrade to 10. After four months of use, the only think I've found that's an improvement over 7 is the hot swapping of drives on the fly and having them show up in a file manager without going into 'device manager'. Not much of an upgrade in my opinion. Monitor resolution and font sizes in programs was a disaster and I finally just gave up.
