Cannot import Chrome settings
-
Hi all!
I'm new to the forum so please accept my apologies if this has been discussed previously.
Importing my settings from Google Chrome fails with this message:This is a freshly installed system, Chrome is not installed yet and the only "old stuff" is my restored user account. So I guess this must be caused by some ".lock" file of some kind...
Any suggestions about where I should look into?
Thanks in advance!
BR,

@martinvivaldi Hello, and welcome to the Vivaldi Community!
If you're sure Chrome is not running, look in the directory where your Chrome profile exists (something like
~/.config/google-chrome/default
) and delete the LOCK file if it exists. -
Hi @Pathduck
Thanks for your reply and for your warm welcome to the Vivaldi Community.
There was a LOCK file as you pointed out. It's now gone but still, Vivaldi refuses to import anything...Another idea will be appreciated.
Thanks and regards,

@martinvivaldi Then I really have no big ideas, as I don't really use Vivaldi on Linux.
But maybe try a
ps -ef | grep -i chrome
to see if maybe a process is still running? -
Have you tried>install Chrome>sign into Chrome/Google>import from Chrome.
-
@Pathduck as I said earlier, Chrome was not even installed
@Para-Noid Vivaldi requires Chrome to be totally shutdown in order to run the import process... so I don't understand what you mean with your train of thoughts there

I forgot one thing...after you sign-into Google>close Chrome>then try to import.

Quick update: I honestly don't know what happened but even with the same error showing up (pls see my first post), Chrome bookmarks were imported. Should other settings be imported as well or the Import-function is only for bookmarks? I'd expect login + passwords and browse history as well...
-
Got sick of this useless import tool... cannot import my login credentials, browser history and bookmarks so... farewell from my system, Vivaldi!
Thank you guys for your time and assistance with this, and sorry for the noise!
Best,

@martinvivaldi I'm sorry to hear that. But maybe if you have a bit more patience, surely some of our resident Linux-experts will be along to give some proper advice on how to solve this
@Gwen-Dragon What do you think?
-
hi all! I was really hoping that someone from the Vivaldi Development Team would read our posts.
I raised "(VB-63011) Cannot import Google Chrome's settings" two days ago. Maybe someone will pick it up and act accordingly as it seems to be a recurrent issue on Linux. Thanks!
-
Hi @Gwen-Dragon - thanks for the update.
I didn't know that their bug tracker was open... is there a link to follow up?Thanks
-
@martinvivaldi The bug tracker's not open, but you are supposed to receive an email confirming your bug report, which you can reply to with additional information. If the team has any questions or updates, they send you further emails.

@martinvivaldi I was facing the same problem. This is happening because chrome is running in background. Two things you need to do 1. go to chrome >โฎ> settings > privacy and security > site settings > background sync and here select the option "Don't allow closed sites to finish sending or receiving data" 2. Chrome >โฎ> settings > Advanced > System and here turn off "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed". After this close the chrome it will not run in background and then try to import. Hope this solution will help.

I ran into the same problem, but I fixed it by removing the
~/.config/google-chrome/SingletonLock
file. -
