[Suggestion] Add repository next to Vivaldi's RPM package
-
Well the objective of the topic is simple, add the Vivaldi repo next to the Vivaldi RPM package, it is something similar to what Chrome does, today it does not come by default in Vivaldi see:
It says that no repository was included, that is, with each version released I will have to download and install it again. -
AFAIK, Vivaldi adds the repo automatically in the first install.
Search for "vivaldi.list" file on your OS.# sudo find / -name "vivaldi.list" 2> /dev/null

He did say RPM package - and that will depend on what distro. As far as I know they are supposed to have a YUM repository, but they do not support urpmi (Mageia and other Mandriva forks). RPM is a little more complicated as there is no single repository structure.

@sgunhouse Mageia does not use yum by default, but it is possible.

Vivaldi developers, if they have a rpm-based Linux machine, would just run the genhdlist2 command in the folder where the different versions are placed. This would create the desired rpm repo.
https://metacpan.org/pod/distribution/rpmtools/genhdlist2Let's just look at the Mageia repository:
https://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/7/x86_64/media/core/backports/This backports folder has a repodata directory and contains the yum database.
The rpm database is no different.
Only here is the database directory name media_info. -
@lamarca In .deb distros yes, in .rpm apparently does not add, I went through the same in Silverblue, each version released had to download again.

@Nlope What's the content of your the file?
Mine is:$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vivaldi.list
### THIS FILE IS AUTOMATICALLY CONFIGURED ###
# You may comment out this entry, but any other modifications may be lost.
deb http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb/ stable mainI pinged Ruarí, just in case.
You Distro, please.

@lamarca My distro is Fedora Workstation.
edit: Weird playing adnf repolist
he lists vivaldi's repo, but in the gnome software when he installs it says it doesn't come with a repo.
Wait for the next update to see if it updates together. -
