Manifest v3 removes PageActions
-
Besides the content blocker controversy, I just remembered another thing - Manifest v3 removes PageAction support from extensions.
For those unaware, this is the difference:
BrowserAction:
- Normal toolbar button
- Button is always visible
- Supports badges like number count
PageAction
- Appears on address bar in Vivaldi (and Firefox; on Chrome it just displays a blue dot when active and gray otherwise)
- Button is visible when needed
- No badge support
In other words, an extension like AutoPagerize or CRX Viewer must then always display a button, even if it cannot do anything on the page.
For Chrome, that's irrelevant, as it has forced to make all extensions appear as a button, even those that don't "do" anything when clicked. But what about Vivaldi? Shall we now get an extension store and support WebExtensions?
