Regression? Spaces in URL are not escaped as %20 anymore when copying URLs
-
When a URL has spaces in it and I copy it, the spaces stay as is, intead of being replaced with %20. This breaks auto-formatting of hyperlink in most applications (Text processors, email clients...)
It seems it's a regression because it was fixed in the past:
"[URL] Always escape space when copying from the URL field: ' ' should be '%20'"
https://update.vivaldi.com/update/1.0/relnotes/1.2.490.35.htmlShould I raise a bug for this?

@hobbes444 Welcome to Vivaldi!
See Settings > Address Bar > Copy and Cut Encoded Address. -
URLs do not have spaces in them. They are not correct if they do, and will not behave as URLs.

I agree. I really hope they will revert back to the standard of encoding spaces as '+' for URL parameters. "%20" is messy, and '+' is the accepted standard for every search engine. As well as it breaks creating links on several forums who requires a URL to not have spaces...

I disagree. RFC 3986 has removed the sentence "All unsafe characters must always be encoded within a URL" and superseeds previous RFC.
Hence it is perfectly fine to have a space in a URL. But, when copying it, since an email client (for example) has no way of parsing this correctly with a space in the middle, it would make sense to make sure spaces are encoded as %20.

The checkbox :
does not fix the issue. If I open some site that has spaces in the URL, after copying it and pasting in some app, there are literal spaces. They should get replaced by "%20".

@Loreno10 Presumably, that only happens with 20% of sites?

@Loreno10 This bug is fixed in the latest snapshot:
https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/desktop/address-bar-fixes-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-2038-3/Still not able to find the setting when using search though...

"http://teachers.d11.org/teachers/taylodr/jsaamathplc/Shared Documents/Math Minutes - 7th Grade.pdf"
when u copy the link from the address bar it doesn't have + nor 20%. In chrome or any-other browser theres no problem. I tried fix what u guys mention above but Cut encoded address also doesn't work if u turn off or on.this link that works copied from chrome browser:

It is fixed now on the latest version vivaldi

seems to be fixed, just tested with 3.4 on OSX .
Hopefully this bug will not come again, sinceI have to copy and paste URLs with spaces a lot, the last time was very painful -
Not fixed for me on Vivaldi 3.4.2066.86 and macOS 10.15.7: when copying a URL containing spaces from the address bar, my clipboard contains a URL with spaces, they have not been replaces with %20.
I have "copy and cut encoded Address" checked in my settings.

I raised a defect for this. It seems the fix mentioned above is incomplete and doesn't always work simply.
