uBlock Origin not blocking ads and umatrix disabled
-
Hello all,
Recently, right after updating to the latest version of 2.8, I noticed that I was seeing ads. Also, that my uMatrix plugin was disabled, and uBlock Origin wasn't blocking anything anymore. See screenshot for reference:
So I went googling and searching the forum and release notes, but all I can find is the official blog post on the API change. I've updated to 2.9, and the issue still persists without any update on the state of the API deprecation. So my question is:
- Has this functionality been removed already?
Please let me know if I'm overlooking something obvious.
-
nano Adblocker still works perfectly for me.

@Gwen-Dragon Thanks for the response. Below is a screenshot of the settings page for uBlock Origin. This is on MacOSX 10.14.6 Mohave:
The example screenshot in my first post was from https://thispointer.com/different-ways-to-remove-a-key-from-dictionary-in-python/.
I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it before I upgraded to 2.9, which is what I'm on right now:
Vivaldi 2.9.1705.31 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Revision 6e33354c6cfe7b14d47dd25210f7f8a4d1b736bd
OS macOS Version 10.14.6 (Build 18G87)I'm going to try that again and see if that helps.

After a round of uninstalling and a couple times quitting it and reopening it and then reinstalling and one more quitting and reopening, it seems to be working again. Looks like a little hiccup that I just had to flush out. Sorry about the muss.

Not uBlock nor uMatrix will never work properly in Vivaldi because authors wont support Vivaldi https://github.com/gorhill/uMatrix/issues/943
There is only one thing that is worse than having no privacy or control - it is a fake control, when user is confident he is protected but in reality it just a facade. This is especially critical with uMatrix if you rely on it to block malicious scripts or trackers by default.
Your only option is either NoScript or built-in JS blocking.Whatever Vivalde devs did they completely broke extension that works just fine on Chromium. I guess it is the same situation as with useragent - they wanted to pet their ego And redo whole internals to pretend they have their own little browser and it is definitely not just Chromimum with custom UI and some consolidated from multiple extensions functionality. And so you've got broken Chromium build.

@Kein Seems to me an outdated bugreport from 2018, I just tried (uBO 1.27.10 in Vivaldi 3.2.1959.3), disabled scripting from uBO, which adds
no-scripting: pelevin.nov.ru true
to the rules and I can select text there. Have you even tried before posting? -
Just to add, I have been using uBlock Origin continually since the original 1.0 releases, without any issues.
-
@Crimsonshade The same here.
-
Without issues too
-
@Gwen-Dragon It should be 3.1 Stable in your reply.

@Gwen-Dragon
I am using the Vivaldi current release with uBlock Origin, and I am very happy with it. I am not using uMatrix. I think the difference with ad-blocking seen by some people depends on what subscriptions they have. -
@Gwen-Dragon said in uBlock Origin not blocking ads and umatrix disabled:
@Kein You should not trust a report which is more 2½ year old.
The issue I've linked was for the sole purpose to show how far back the problem with Vivaldi goes, it was easier to ignore it and its internal changes 2 years ago already, rather then trying to implement convoluted fix of a workaround.
I've been test-driving uMatrix for a week and visited about 391 different domains and approximately 10% of them it did not work properly and some still were able to run 1st party/inline script despite them being blocked globally in extension. This is something that does not happen in Chromium, even custom builds like Ungoogled.You simply cant rely on any privacy/blocker extensions in Vivaldi unless it was specifically accustomed to it and none of them are because it simply not worth developing basically whole new extension for 0.0001% market.
