Vivaldi Will not Open After Update
-
Pushed Norton update, restart and all good with Vivaldi opening. Upgraded to chrome /79.0.3945.118 and all is good so thanks.

I have the same issue now after update to 3.7.2218.45. The browser window will not show up if you click on the pinned icon.
Tried unpinning and pinning back again. Same problem. If I just run the browser from the start menu it works fine.
I don't use any 3rd party antivirus etc. I can see the vivaldi.exe processes running in the task manager. But there is no UI. Also the pinned icon in the taskbar doesn't indicate the application is running (no underline).
-
@kowgli Same here. Pinned icons on Taskbar doesn't work. Vivaldi starts fine from Start menu. (v3.7.2218.45) Unpinning, repinning won't help.
-
@id15495 Same problem, also.
It took me ages to figure out to not use the pinned icon. That that even makes a difference is really confusing.
I was browsing normally, then the browser crashed, which it normally never does, and it would not let me restart, even after rebooting. It just ... wouldn't show up, even though the processes were all running. Can I roll the recent update back, somehow? And maybe opt-out of the new silent update feature? Help?

Same problem here, there is workaround, right click on icon on taskbar and click open as new tab. looks like they broke it again.
I don't have Symantec or Norton
-
I have not used windows for many years but i did experience this pinning to taskbar issue where browsers were concerned,
I removed the pinned icon completely and then i would go into the browser folder and re-pin from there.
not sure if this helps anyone but thought i would add my experience with this.

What taskbar do you use? When I click the pinned icon on the Windows 10 Task bar, I get no new Tab option. It's being treated just like any other shortcut.

No, that was the very first thing I did, after rebooting. Sorry, something is preventing Vivaldi from launching form the taskbar specifically. No idea what. You'd think it's simple enough, heh. You can drag the shortcut from the program menu ONTO the taskbar and create another shortcut that then will work.
But you'll see Vivaldi twice in the taskbar then, because your manually created one, will not be treated as the running progarm. It's very odd.

@Jammet maybe you have some old version of windows 10, right click works on every icon in my taskbar
-
@Jammet ok,
sorry my memory is vague with windows,i last used windows at windows 7.Is there some way of editing the taskbar itself so as to add the vivaldi shortcut.?
Sorry if i'm not much help but i am just clutching at ideas here.
Do you drag the shortcut from the vivaldi folder.?
Have you tried via the window manager.?..this is the method used in linux and not sure if windows 10 is similar.
On my system i can launch vivaldi in 2 ways, from the start menu or i can create a desktop icon to launch from.
I never use the taskbar for launching the browser. -
@Priest72 , In Windows 10 just choose 'Ad to the Taskbar' in the context menu. I have all my applications that I use the most in the Taskbar and nothing on the desktop, since it allows me to run it with the hotkey Win+number. I don't like to clutter the desktop with icons.

Vivaldi 3.7 has a bug with the task bar pins. If you have this issue you can right click on the task bar pin, and again right click on "Vivaldi" and click Properties. Remove app-id from the end of the target and replace vivaldi_proxy.exe with just vivaldi.exe. Now it will work.

Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 20H2
OS build 19042.867
Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0I have the latest and greatest, and it would be helpful if you gave an example. I do get right click items beyond a simple "Unpin from Task Bar" on items such as the File Explorer, on a different web browser called WaterFox, on a small StickyNotes App by Microsoft, and the eM Client email program. Just these select few.

I have had the same issue with the latest update, now reported as a bug..
This has fixed it for me, thank you..

This is Windows adding a taskbar icon using corrupt syntax. I'm not sure whether the structure of the update routine can have an impact on this for the systems it affects (it does not happen here), but I will run it up the flag pole to the devs. There may be something we can do.

This worked for me, too. (And now I wonder if we'll have a problem with the taskbar pin in the next Vivaldi update)
