Repopulating Vivaldi bookmark links = unwanted ad tracking
-
Vivaldi, after updating itself, recreates their own bookmark folders populated with ad tracking links. No thank you, I prefer to not be tracked. No means no.
I repeatedly delete their bookmark folders such as 'Business' only to have them reappear after a program update. Since I don't like my bookmarks clogged with unwanted folders and links, this recurring problem is annoying.
To see this for yourself, try clicking on eToro under their 'Business' bookmark folder and then watch Adguard block this url:

Reappearing of the default bookmarks is a bug (unless it changed recently — but that wouldn't happen) and the devs don't want this to happen.
As you said, you can delete them every time. I, for example, don't have to do that, probably because I don't use Sync (which could cause it
) → as you can see, it's really only a bug.

If the user has deleted the bookmarks included with installation and they reappear, that is a bug and you should file it if you see it happen. One way that they might seem to reappear is if you install Vivaldi on another machine and sync those bookmarks to your profile, then they would appear on your other machines - but this is because your synced those bookmarks to your profile. As has been stated, it's the user's choice to remove or keep the bookmarks. If you want to be certain such a thing doesn't happen, then delete the bookmarks before setting up your sync credentials.
I have been running Vivaldi for years and have never had the bookmarks included with installation reappear. The only time I have ever seen them is when setting up a new system. I know that some people recently have had issues with sync causing duplication of Notes; I can't recall anyone reporting the same issue with Bookmarks, but again that would only be a problem if you sync'd them to your profile in the first place.
So, @trading10, if you have had these bookmarks reappear without doing a fresh install, please file a bug. If there is an issue where this is happening not through some misunderstanding but the browser actually restoring them, Vivaldi will want to fix that.

@trading10 thanks for reaching out and sorry for the trouble. This issue has been reported in our bug tracker and our developers are working on it. Please watch out for VB-52492. The developers hope to find a fix as soon as possible.
Thanks for using Vivaldi and being patient with us. -
