Flash applets can't be started since 2.7
-
I'm a habitual Linux user whose main laptop runs Linux Mint 19.2, and unfortunately, here I have a bit of a problem. Ever since the first snapshots for 2.7 came out, I have found that whenever Vivaldi loads Flash content, the applet is shown as a Click to Play dialogue, but no matter what I do, I can't actually get Vivaldi to run any Flash applet. This is even after I enabled the settings to automatically enable Flash globally.
When this problem first presented itself, I had both Vivaldi Snapshot and Vivaldi Stable installed; and this problem was confined only to the Snapshots - Vivaldi 2.6 Stable worked fine for Flash content. So, since I heard about Flash bugs in the Snapshots, I had held the fort hoping that this was a minor thing that would eventually be fixed. However, the problem has now persisted even into the Stable release of 2.7; and remains an issue in the current Snapshot builds as well. Only when I uninstalled all versions of Vivaldi and used a previous download of the .deb to reinstall Stable 2.6, did Flash content begin to work as normal; and I am concerned the issue will re-emerge if I upgrade again.
With Vivaldi edging closer to 2.8, I am concerned that if I cannot resolve the issue, I will find myself having to lock my PC down to running a version of Vivaldi that is several versions out of date. I would therefore be grateful for any suggestions.

Well, there is a bug if you are using Adobe Flash - and a workaround (don't use Adobe, yet).

Slightly embarassing timing, but some time after posting this thread I discovered https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/39553/adobe-flash-player-wont-load/ and as it turns out, my problem was just as described there and as the last reply here suggested - I had the Adobe Flash plugin installed. Removing this and installing pepperflashplugin-nonfree appears to have resolved the problem, yay! Curious that this bug doesn't appear to affect Vivaldi pre-2.7 though...

@Crimsonshade That what I would remind you, as a moderator (I don't use that blue badge). Fortunately, there was a second option for me.

They changed the code for sure.

It's my fault entirely - this particular Forum software is not intuitive to me (saying this as someone who has used various different Forum software over many decades, and who still administrates one for a videogame community) - so I'm still finding my way around; and I simply didn't notice these topics in searches. Call it first day stupidity ^^

@Crimsonshade You are a guest for our community. Start a thread, with all details. I am embarrassed for not being able to solve the flash.
If you have a suggestion, do it, I can guarantee our community manager is receptive.
Those admin which id = pw .......... lol
You made the right move, and try Debian 10.1:)Edited: Fixed version number

Thanks for the tip Mr. Dragon - I shall bear that in mind. As I already said two posts ago though, this problem is resolved. It was indeed because of the adobe-flashplugin package being installed; and replacing with pepperflashplugin-nonfree has restored the functionality.
