Chromecast?

HI Can Chromecast be implemented on Vivaldi? I downloaded the google cast extension some time ago, My chromecast device is recognised under extension but there was no way use it without the google play extension button. Now that we have the extension button, I thought i could finally use chromecast with vivaldi, Unfortunately when i click the cast extension button the pop up, where i should select the device, is blank, although its dectected in extension options, Does anyone now of a work around so chromecast can be used with vivaldi, (i'm sure i'm not the only one who wants this) or would it require extra coding which may not be viable. i;d really love this as its the only reason i use Google Chrome. and it would allow me to use vivaldi instead, put that with the forthcoming mail client. I will be able to get rid of both opera 12 and chrome and forget about new opera too and just use this beautiful powerhouse instead! Thanks

I would like this too. I'd prefer to avoid the browser of the evil empire

+1 for this feature. I had to download Google Chrome just for casting my PC to the chromecast, which I hate. I would love to be able to do this directly from Vivaldi.

+1 for Google Cast (correct extension name). Everyone other extension I've tried works.
Beta on W10 and Arch Linux.

The chromecast code in Chrome is proprietary code and not available in Chromium, so your best bet might be to prod google to open source it. I doubt they will, though.

I kind of thought as much, You can see google's point. Chrome has to have some advantage, Maybe someone will come up with a third part alternative as it is with android,, localcast, web video caster etc., thanks for the reply.

But on Android many apps support casting, or is it because it is part of the Google Play Services API?
edit: no, it seems that the chromecast protocols have been reverse engineered
Android exposes the API to apps. See https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/developers

The chromecase code is now part of later chromium releases, so there might be something happening in not too long.

1.0.403.17 (Developer Build) dev (64-bit), cast works on Google Play Music and YouTube, not Spotify, not sites like Soundcloud or, for example, kanyewest.com where there is embedded audio. All of the above work on Cast for Chrome.
Great work, loving Vivaldi.

@aapgorilla:
It works !!!! :cheer: goodbye chrome
I can't get the chrome cast extension to work, I've tried adding it from the Vivaldi browser by clicking "get more extensions" and it adds the button to the top right but it "cannot gather media".
Are you on Windows? maybe this is just a mac problem. -
It doesn't seem to be working well in the stable version of vivaldi… cast icon not showing on youtube and so on.. "PlayTo for chromecast" extension seems to be a good workaround, until it gets sorted.
Edit. update 1.1.453.52 (Stable channel) (32-bit) seems to have fixed it , YouTube and DailyMotion work flawlessly now,
