New tab opens when middle button is released on tab bar? How to disable it?
-
Hello there,
I recently switched from Opera to Vivaldi and so far the experience has been great. The amount of settings is crazy and you can tweak the browser to suit all your needs.
However I found a behavior (or feature?) quiet disturbing and would to know if there is a way to disable it because it makes me open new tabs accidentally like 10 times a day and it starts getting on my nerve :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_smiling_eyes:
My tab bar is on top. I hold the middle button to drag a page up and down. Sometimes, when I want to go to the top of the page real quick, I hold the middle button and quickly move the cursor to the top of my screen (and vivaldi window) but when I release the button Vivaldi opens a new tab.
Is there a way to disable it?This problem occurs when the tab bar is on top or on the sides but never when the tab bar is at the bottom of the browser.
Thanks

Why do you use the middle button, and what is the purpose of "drag a page up and down"? Do you mean MMB click and scroll? If so it's a toggle, you don't need to hold down the MMB.
And it shouldn't open a new tab by accidentally hitting the tab bar.
Clicking the MMB in the tab bar will close a tab.
Clicking MMB on a link will open it in new tab.Are you running some software to control the mouse button operations?

as Pathduck said, you don't need to hold the MMB to do that, just click one time to "lock the mode" and you can move up/down. Then click LMB (or MMB again) to "exit mode". But I got a proposition for you, you know in Vivaldi (contrary to Opera) you can set almost anything to a mouse gesture, so you could bind for example "hold RMB and move the mouse UP" to go to the top instantly

I did some digging, turns out if you have "Use Native Window" disabled, clicking MMB on the tab bar does nothing. Probably a bug, I don't use that function anyway.
I was actually now able to reproduce what the OP states - even without Native Window, holding down MMB (which is unnecessary) on the page, then releasing it on the tab bar will open a new tab. I don't think that's part of the mouse gestures so I'd say a bug.
@raphaelgirard You can avoid this by not holding down MMB but just clicking it to toggle the mouse scroll. But if you want, you can report it as a bug here:

Thanks for your inputs, much appreciated.
@Pathduck
You can do either (at least on my computer with windows 10) :
(1) Hold the MMB and release it when you want to stop scrolling (like with your finger on a smartphone/tablet: press, move, release)
or
(2) Click it once to start the scrolling and click again to stop it. (toggle mode like you said)If I want to go quickly on top or bottom of a page, I usually choose method (1) because it's faster : one MMB click hold + swift gesture + release.
Choosing method (2) will require an extra click to disable the scroll.@npro
If I scroll down quickly my cursor will reach the bottom of the screen where the taskbar is. To "exit mode" I will then need to go back up a little bit to "reach" the Vivaldi windows and then click LMB or MMB.
Will check the mouse gestures. But I can already see the problem if I want to setup a mouse gesture to go bottom page, conflict with the "new page" gesture. -

You can remove or change that one (or all you don't want to use).

@potmeklecbohdan Removing one of the gestures I have been using for the past 20 years or so? Yeah, not gonna happen :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_smiling_eyes:

You mean you actually use the "Stop Loading" mouse gesture? :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:

Haha. I didn't even know it existed. No, I was talking about the one on the other way, new tab with down gesture.

For a similar reason (page up, page down) I use βββ and βββ for start/end of page.

@raphaelgirard Yeah, RMB+Down gesture for new tab is brilliant and I use it a lot. But RMB+Up for "Stop Loading" I never ever use - I just press ESC) so remapping it to "Scroll Page to Top" as suggested was a Really Good Idea
-
@raphaelgirard I use β΄ to scroll to bottom for the same reason. β scroll to top and ofc β for new tab.

@greenenemy
Thanks. I set it up like this, I'll see if I can get used to it.Bug report has been submitted : VB-56741

Thanks. I set it up like this, I'll see if I can get used to it.For sure you can, it's perfect I didn't write about it because everyone can set up gestures the way he/she likes/thinks.

Hi
Just to let everyone know that the problem is no longer. I don't know if my jira ticket VB-56741 has been reviewed or not but the problem I had has been fixed 2 or 3 updates ago.
Have a great day -
