File Open Dialog does not appear
-
Sometimes when I click on a button to open a file I can't use Vivaldi. Instead of showing the "File Open Dialog" Vivaldi acts as if there was a modal window, but it doesn't actually exist. I can't switch to anything and pressing Escape doesn't do anything. However, Alt+F4 allows me to get back to Vivaldi. After that clicking the button just does nothing at all.
I have to kill the process and restart Vivaldi. Then it usually works once. The second time I get the same problem.
This even happens here when I try to upload an image. -
@Gwen-Dragon Lots of sites, e.g. filebin.net, have upload buttons that open the file open dialogue. Uploading an image to this site from the Cloud icon does the same.

Do you have a 2nd screen, and if so Is it possible that the "open" dialog is sitting off outside the visible part of the screen?

@dulcetAirman I can not image how to trigger a 'File open' dialog on a web page.
Any chance that you give a test case?I already mentioned that this forum here has such a feature. The icon looks like a cloud with an upwards arrow. Or go to https://pasteboard.co/ or any such site.
The only solution I have now is to use Alt+F4 to trigger the exit dialog, which allows me to get back to Vivaldi. -

Such 'File open' buttons works for me on 2.6.1566.49 Stable and 2.7.1628.12 Snapshot on Windows 10 x64.
I still have the problem with:
Vivaldi 2.6.1566.49 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)
Windows 10 OS Version: 1903 (Build 18362.295) -
I have the same problem. I switched to Vivaldi because the other Chrome based browser I was using does the same thing.
I maintain a Wordpress site and need to upload images to the media Library. I click on the "Upload" button and the browser just does nothing. No file explorer and I either need to run Task Manger to end the process or do the Alt+f4 to exit Vivaldi. The browser also "freezes" when I clicked on the upload button on this forum
I have no other dialog showing and it has been doing this probably since the patch before the last one.
Here are my stats:
Vivaldi 2.7.1628.30 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Revision de3e6f8d706086e0a70702a03236a97c8aabcc50
OS Windows 10 OS Version 1903 (Build 18362.295)
JavaScript V8 7.6.303.29
Flash 32.0.0.238Would really like some kind of resolution or work around or I will have to look for another browser

@Gwen-Dragon I found no hidden dialogs and I only have one monitor. I reinstalled Vivaldi and reset the profile and it didn't fix my issue.
It isn't just Wordpress but any browser app that has an upload button breaks my browser. I can open new windows but it refuses to open a File dialog and it just dings when I click on the screen and I have to force close the browser.
It is a download I get a message about canceling the download but it never starts.

@cadfile The ding sound means the dialog is there somewhere, and has focus, so you can't do anything else, but you can close it by pressing ESC usually.
Here's a thing to try:
- Download WinLister: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/winlister.html and unzip it somewhere (it's portable).
- Launch WinLister.
- Reproduce the issue in Vivaldi.
- Look in the WinLister list for a title "Open", probably with the Vivaldi icon, and a class of something like "#32770"
- Right click and try one of the options like Switch To, Show, or Top-Most Switch.
Hopefully Windows will remember the "state" of this window class next time.

I downloaded and used Winlister and reproduced the issue in the browser but there was nothing listed in Winlister that came close to something named "Open". It showed only only one entry for Vivaldi and that the browser.

OK it might be a hidden dialog message or something else- but the ding sound definitely means something is holding focus in the background.
Can you press ESC to quit it without having to kill the browser? Or Enter?
Try playing around with the display options (hidden, size) in WinLister. Try to keep the window on top while reproducing in Vivaldi, and try to note any new windows opening.
It might help to press Win+Left in Vivaldi, and Win+Right in Winlister, then you will have the two windows side by side.

@Pathduck If it is hidden then it is really hidden because nothing worked. My best guess is for some reason Vivaldi is crashing my File Explorer so Windows think the dialog is open - because of the dinging - but it doesn't open.
This happens only with Chromium based browsers. I never have had the issue with my Firefox or with Chrome itself.
Thanks anyway for the help
