How to remove Favorites from Address Bar Autocomplete (also avoiding the taco sex cult)
-
I like being able to use an address bar's autocomplete feature to quickly go to commonly visited sites. For instance, if I type "ma", after visiting it so many times, I expect to get "maps.google.com" as the first autocomplete. It seems this used to work in Vivaldi, as it does in most browsers, but something has changed. [2.6.1566.44]
If I type "ma" now, it picks out something from my Favorites - specifically a Rust map, from maybe 5 years ago. (Due to constantly porting Favorites with every browser migration for decades, I've a fairly bloated list).
If I type "tac", instead of tacobell.com (which we order from a lot around here), I get a Wikipedia article for tachikawa-ryu, a Buddhist sex cult.... Okay, THAT one might be my fault, but you see the potential issue here!
Under "Address Bar Settings" I have "Address Auto-Complete->Always Prefer Bookmarks" unchecked, as well as "Include Bookmarks" unchecked in the Address Drop Down menu.
So, short of hunting through my Favorites library and prefixing all the entries with an * or some massive task that will otherwise prevent this behavior... Anyone have any idea how I prevent being redirected to a Buddhist sex cult when looking for tacos?

@bugmenot3 Select the unwanted item in the drop list and click the x icon on the right of it.
-
@Pesala That doesn't cut it. It removes the entry from the drop down, but it still autocompletes to the entry ("ma" still autocompletes to "map.playrust.io", even though I've not been there for years and even after I remove the drop down entry). The tachikawa wikipedia article autocompletes after typing "tac" even though it's not in the drop down, at all, and similarly, I've not been there for years (I swear, really).
Albeit, even if it did work, I'd have to do it for every entry in my favorites that I might type part of, which would get annoying.

@bugmenot3 I think you may be correct. Personally I have "Prefer bookmarks" checked, as I prefer to use bookmarks first, then history.
But I tested with it unchecked, and it does seem it still will give you the first choice from bookmarks even if both options are UNchecked.
I know Vivaldi devs are in the process of a major reworking on the address bar, and this is probably a bug related to this work.
If you are able to write up a reproducible report on the issue you can do so here:
https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/Even if it will be hard to reproduce the exact issue of preferring Buddhist sex cults over Taco Bell, I am sure they will get the gist of it
Now... off to do some ... research

@Pathduck Was afraid of that... Will do. Enjoy your Wikipedia research.

@bugmenot3 For me, deleting the entry from Typed History stops it displaying there again.
It won't be removed from the history of visited pages unless you do that in the History Tab or Panel. In the History Panel (or History Tab) search for the item and select it, then press delete.
-
@Pesala It's not exactly the same. For instance, with the settings like this:
I would then expect the dropdown to only show History and not prefer bookmarks when typing.
However, this happens:
I would have expected one of the History entries to auto-fill the URL, not the page it fills out, from my Bookmarks, and which is not in my recent history.
