Constant crashing when opening the developer tools.
Hello to all,
this topic seems to popup frequently from time to time and now it hits me.
I use Vivaldi on a Windows 10 machine at home and at work and on both systems I have the similar problem, that the browser crashes on opening the dev tools without any error message. The crash rate is let me guess about 40 to 50 % which is suuuuuuper (flaming words) annoying.
Is this a known problem? Is there a solution?
I don't want to use a different browser, but it's unusable.
I don't use dev tools often, but I would say it crashes on less than 1/10 of dev tools launches for me.
@WildChild85 I work with a daily (internal beta) version of 2.7 Vivaldi on Windows 10 Pro 1903 and did not get any crash with Developer Tools.
Do you use any special extensions which are added to enhance Developer Tools?
Does this happen if you use a fresh browser profile (use Profile Manager on address bar to add a new one)?
@Gwen-Dragon Thx for your reply.
I don't use the browser profile right now. Maybe in the future.
But I use a few plugins:
- Bitbucket DiffTree
- VueJs Developer Tools
- Xdebug helper
@WildChild85 I will try with the three extensions and check for a crash.
Plrase you tell me:
- version of Vivaldi
- special settings for extensions or developer tools
I can not reproduce any crash on my 2.6 Stable after hitting F12, i have
VueJs Developer Tools
@Gwen-Dragon Thank you a lot.
- Always enable difftree
VueJs Developer Tools
@Gwen-Dragon I most of the time click inspect element. I will try f12.
@WildChild85 I tried it an could not get a crash on 2.6 with installed Xdebug, DiffTree and Vuejs extension.
But i do not use 1Password.
I know about crashes with 1Password om MacOS.
What happens if you remove the 1Password Extension?
@Gwen-Dragon I am not able to reproduce it again. Misterious support magic. All extensions still active. I used 1 password, smashed F12 and Inspect Element. No crashes. If it crashes again, I will try to reproduced what I did that time then.

Fine for you.
If it crashes again, I will try to reproduced what I did that time then.
If that happens please send the Vivaldi Developers a crashdump from time of crash with a bug report: https://help.vivaldi.com/article/reporting-crashes-on-windows/
@Gwen-Dragon How do I send the crash report? I created already the bug report, but there was no upload possibillity.
I created already the bug report, but there was no upload possibillity.
All is explained. Read first: https://help.vivaldi.com/article/reporting-crashes-on-windows/ -- Section Reporting a crash
@WildChild85 FYI: Your report is VB-55293 "Crash on opening the developer tools"
I pinged a dev to check the crash.
PS: Thanks for the report
@Gwen-Dragon Nice thank you. I have answered with the dump in the attachment per email.
I am very glad about this quick and active responsability. I didn't expect to get any response within several days. I know it won't be fixed or even addressed in the next patch but still I am very happy about the reaction time.
@Gwen-Dragon Is there also a place where I can see a planned feature roadmap or where I can ask for a feature? I am looking forward into the backdrop filter css property, which will be supported in the chromium 76 version (release 30. July 2019) and I would like to know, when this feature will arrive in Vivaldi.
Is there also a place where I can see a planned feature roadmap
No, we have no timeline/roadmap when version comes.
where I can ask for a feature?
You can search for a existing feature request at https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/113/feature-requests (use button at top-right for search), if there is none you may add one in the feature request forum.
