turn off the Now Playing feature, or move the bar lower
-
since last i updated, now playing music or video on the browser shows when the volume is adjusted. The thing is, the bar only disappears after a few seconds and it blocks where the usual logo of websites commonly used to go back to the home page, and whenever the mouse hovers over it it refreshes the timer. i can't find the setting to adjust this, has it been implemented?

@penster Are you using a "multi-media keyboard"?
See https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/38264/volume-box -
Even if it's true this is an OS "feature" and not directly controlled by Vivaldi, there is code in Vivaldi (probably implemented by Chrome devs
), that calls this system API/code in Windows to display this overlay.
You can control the time the overlay appears in Windows Settings > Ease Of Access > Display but the smallest time is 5 seconds which is actually quite long...
It's not only Vivaldi that has this issue, also Spotify, but at least they have a setting to turn this integration off:
https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Windows/How-to-get-rid-of-the-new-volume-banner/td-p/1479802
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/disable-spotify-pop-up-windows-10/So yes this could also be "fixed" by Vivaldi developers. Some will say you should open a feature request but I would open a bug report stating "Vivaldi is lacking a way to turn off volume overlay in Windows 10."
Edit: you can also disable the extra controls (not the volume bar) by setting
chrome://flags/#hardware-media-key-handling
to disabled. -
