Speed dial functionality tweak

I use speed dials. My brain prefers them to bookmarks, for some reason... anyway, because I have lots, arranged in categories, I have noticed that I don't seem to be able to find a setting that will launch a clicked-on entry in my speed dials in a new tab rather than the current one. (This means that I may then have to open a new tab, then choose my dial, then open the next site rather than just click on the tab with the dial in it and click the next thumbnail.
Have I missed a setting somewhere?

try middle mouse button (the scroll wheel)

- Middle-click, open in new background tab
- Ctrl-click, open in new background tab
- Shift-click, open in new tab
- Mouse Gestures can also be assigned to Open Link in New Tab or Open link in Background tab (over a link)
