Vivaldi installation folders
-
Hi all, I just switched to Linux, from W10 and I'm trying to understand how an installation of an app works, in Ubuntu: Vivaldi's executables are in the
/opt/vivaldi-snapshot/
folder, but the command line is in the/usr/bin/
path.
I'm new to Debian and to Linux: can someone help me understand why the files are placed into the/opt/
folder, instead of the/usr/bin
one?
Sorry, for the silly question...

Hello there,
/usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot is a symlink.
The output of the cmd [[ $ ls -lha ]]lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 38 Jun 14 09:31 /usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot -> /opt/vivaldi-snapshot/vivaldi-snapshot

@Gwen-Dragon Really! I would never imagine /opt is dedicated to some
somefor proprietary software ;pEdited: grammar
