Install extensions manually
-
I recently tried to install an extension manually by dragging the .crx file onto the extension page, but nothing happens. The extension was packed from its source in Vivaldi.
I believe this worked at some point. Was this feature disabled for some reason or is it just a bug?

Enable developer mode. I just tried ScriptJaeger from its github
https://github.com/An-dz/ScriptJaeger/releases/tag/v0.5.1
and it's installed. I manually update several of my extensions weekly and it's working for me. I'm using Vivaldi 2.5.1525.4, you? -
@iAN-CooG I tried this version (latest snapshot, right?), but it didn't work. I can load the extension and pack it into a .crx file on dev mode, but I can't install this file directly into Vivaldi.
-
that's weird, all crx I drag in the extensions page activate the request to install them for me and works.

@thomassawyer
Hi, iirc you have "Developer mode" switch to On.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin he already confirmed he has it activated, he can even pack the extensions, which is not possible if you don't have dev mode active.
@Gwen-Dragon an unsiged crx would pop up a line saying "package is invalid CRX_SIGNATURE_VERIFICATION_FAILED" but surely not silently fail.
@thomassawyer When everything fails, I'd try to refresh the default profile.
I've tried to create a new profile, enabled dev mode and I can reproduce the problem, dragging a crx in the window doesn't react, only works for my default profile. -

@Gwen-Dragon should arrive soon, I've replied with a dump rar-ed
-
@Gwen-Dragon it's just a matter or deleting the manifest.json from the crx, I've used 7zip but i bet it can be done with any archiver, it's just a zip file after all. I'm confident there's no need for me to upload it, right?

No, the CRX is not a zip file.
Sigh. It is, it has an added CRX header but it's still is a zip file.
Anyway, added the altered crx to the report as it seems too hard to even try it.7-Zip 18.05 (x86) : Copyright (c) 1999-2018 Igor Pavlov : 2018-04-30 Scanning the drive for archives: 1 file, 65110 bytes (64 KiB) Listing archive: ScriptJaeger0.5.1.crx -- Path = ScriptJaeger0.5.1.crx Type = zip Offset = 593 Physical Size = 64517 Date Time Attr Size Compressed Name ------------------- ----- ------------ ------------ ------------------------ 2018-10-15 13:59:42 ..... 34621 10179 background.js 2018-10-15 13:48:08 ..... 3141 853 default-prefs.js 2018-10-15 13:48:08 D.... 0 2 images 2018-10-15 13:48:08 ..... 1320 694 LICENSE 2018-10-15 13:48:08 ..... 4189 1299 popup.css 2018-10-15 13:48:08 ..... 3420 1043 popup.html [etc]

it could be a win7 32bit issue then
-
@iAN-CooG Checked VB-52459
- Downloaded and dragged the altered Version into Vivaldi, got the yellow bar and pressed OK, tried it again and hit the X.
- Downloaded the original, Opened the file with 7z (did not unpack) deleted the manifest, dragged it into Vivaldi, got the yellow bar and pressed OK, tried it again and hit the X.
- Tried it with the unpacked version and "load unpacked" too.
Tested with the 32 and 64 builds of Vivaldi in W7 x64 (sorry, no W7 i386 here since years)
- 2.4.1488.38 (stable)
- 2.5.1525.30 (snapshot)
- 2.5.1531.1 (internal)
No crash.
So either it is W7 i386 or something else.

@QuHno ok but there should be some PC in Vivaldi with win7 32 bit to test it, because it's supported so it should be tested aswell.
I can test with this 1525.30 SS - which has fixes for some previous problems with extensions - and report back.Edit: No change, still crashing after pressing the OK appearing in the warning after dragging the invalid crx. Re-replied with a new crashdump
Previous report was made from my Home PC, now on work PC, so 2 different PCs, both 32bit, with same Vivaldi SS version but different extensions used (apart uBlock Origin on both) and settings.Edit 2: I've tested on my 2nd work PC, with Win10 64bit, and I confirm it doesn't crash Vivaldi. Definately a 32bit only issue.

Baffled by pc speak, surely it should easy to add an extension? I go to the Store and it gives the option of my phone or tablet but not vivaldi on my desktop. Just started using vivaldi.

@deodata You need to activate Settings → Privacy → Google Extension → Chrome Web Store, restart and visit https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions.
Search extension you like to install and hit "Add to Chrome" button. -
