Screenshots not saving
-
Hello, I am a new user of Vivaldi, seems altogether a refreshing experience. I am not particularly technical, but have been using computers for thirty years.
My problem is 'screenshots'. When I click the camera icon, select either full page or selection, select save as either format, 'save', no file appears in my nominated location.
If I select 'copy to clipboard' it works, but I don't really want to have to save manually from the clipboard.
Windows 10, latest updates in place, V downloaded only this week, so I assume latest version.
Where am I going wrong?

@keithmason can you actually write in the directory you have set? If I specify a drive that doesn't exist on my PC, nothing gets captured, for example.
-
iAN, good to have your interest. Yes, if I save to clipboard, paste into Paint for instance and then save to the chosen directory, it works fine. I have copied the location for my new saving file in File Explorer and pasted it into 'settings' 'webpages' 'storage folder', and still nothing appears when I select for instance JPEG as format.
What more can I check?

maybe a problem when copying/pasting due to unicode chars? Spaces in the path? try writing a simple dir name like C:\temp
-
iAN, again thanks for your reply.
As I began by saying, I am not particularly technical, but I think I may have drilled down to the problem (if such it is), but with your help of course!
I set the storage folder to C:\temp and on clicking to save, file explorer opened with the file shown.
I checked the desired location address C:\Users\keith\Pictures\Vivaldishots, found no problem characters, but it still did not save to this location. So I tried C:\Users\keith\Pictures and still got no save. Next went to C:\Users\keith and everything works fine!
Would I be correct in surmising that there is a limit to the number of 'layers' which the code will accept as a 'storage folder'?
I have created a folder C:\Vivscreenshots and this happily accepts screenshots, and opens in FE when a shot is taken.
So, the location is not where I would have wished, but I can live with that.
Many thanks for holding my hand through this.

@keithmason that's really strange you can't use your user\pictures directory
I've just changed back my capture storage folder to where it was once:
C:\Users\ian\Pictures\Vivaldi Captures\
(notice that there is even a space in the path) and my png and jpg are saved there correctly.
BUT! if there is a space AFTER the last slash, I can replicate the problem!
just edited the path adding a space after Captures\
Try retyping the path making sure there are no extra spaces. -
@keithmason Something has occurred to me: Some applications can "rewrite" paths, and maybe that's tripping up vivaldi.
Do you have OneDrive installed and set up to "auto-save" the contents of your pictures folder?
-
iAN, LonM, thanks both. First, I have checked again, without spaces and with a final slash. C:\Users\keith\ works, C:\Users\keith\Pictures\ doesn't.
C:\Vivscreenshots works. So, Ian, it seems I cannot replicate your experience.
LonM, no, I do not use OneDrive, I use Google Drive instead. But I don't have it set to upload from 'pictures' automatically. I have tried switching Drive off altogether, and nothing changes.
I am happy to go on trying things out, but as I said, I can live with what I have established, so I don't want to take up too much of everyone's time.
And I am still very pleased with the Vivaldi experience, both the browser, and the community.
