Lost all configurations
-
Hi all.
First of all, I'd like to thank all the people in this project.
I'm using Vivaldi for a while and I'm pretty enthusiastic with the Speed Dial and the organization modes of the Browser.
Sadly, some minutes ago, the browser was opened by another application (Slack) and it seems everything was gone. All the configurations, extensions, and, the worst part, my speed dial, plenty of sites about coding and very important things about work.
Is there anything that I can do to recover, at least, the Speed Dial links.
Please, anyone?
My thanks to you all.

@artur-gomes-viv Check your version number from Help, About.
Maybe opening a link from slack opened a different version that is set as your default, while your shortcut points to a version that you installed latter.

Hi Pesala
Thanks for the quick answer.
My version is "2.2.1388.37 (Stable channel) (32-bit)"
If I check for updates, it's says that this is the last version available.
My shortcuts are pointing to this. Do you think Slack could change the paths on the links? Finding that very strange.What do you recommend for me to do?
Thanks!
PS: Is there a folder where Vivaldi is storing the SpeedDial shortcuts and other bookmarks?
-
@artur-gomes-viv Go to Settings, General, Default Browser, Check on Startup, then exit and restart to confirm that 2.2.138.37 is set as your default browser.
Slack is an application like Team Viewer for running applications on remote computers. Perhaps it is running it in a private mode to protect your privacy?
P.S. Bookmarks and other user data is stored in the profile path, which you can find in Help, About.

@Pesala Thanks.
Done it. Just not restarted my machine
The issue continues.
I looked in the folder that you pointed, and all the files are dated of today around this hour or so. I think that is a little bit strange, isn't it?
I'm now running Vivaldi directly from the shortcut in the task bar and the issue is the same. No speed dial and all the configurations.
I noticed that when the Vivaldi was started from inside Slack, it was like the first time, asking me to chose the theme, to import the shortcuts from other browsers and so on. I found it very strange, but ok... some upgrade in the browser, I thought. But as soon as I pointed to the SpeedDial which use to be my Homepage... I almost had a stroke...I'm starting to be a little bit scared...

@Pesala
I made some research in the folder and I think the browser, somehow, changed the profile.
Inside the "Profile 1", which is the path in "Profile Path" in the about, everything is date from today.
I looked inside the "Default" folder, whose structure it's similar with the one from "Profile 1" and I inspected the Bookmarks file.
It looks like a simple Json file and after a while I could find my speed dial references.
If this is true, how can I change the profile to the Default one instead the "Profile 1"...Thanks for the help.

No, that's not strange, mine are mostly dated today. My bookmarks file is dated 26/01/2019 @ 21.22, which is minutes ago.

@artur-gomes-viv That's good news. As suspected, Slack is protecting your privacy.
Someone more knowledgeable will pass by soon to tell you how to change your profile folder back to your default.

@Pesala
Many thanks for your help.
I'll be here biting nails and waiting for your colleague. -
@Pesala
I noticed now two new icons in my desktop.
One is labeled "Person 1 - Vivaldi" and the other "Person 2 - Vivaldi". Both have the Vivaldi icon.
If I use the first one, I got all my bookmarks and speed dial, extensions and so on. The other, brings me to a brand new "profile".
I would like to have the first one as default when I start the Browser.
Many thanks! -
@artur-gomes-viv The moderators are all just users who volunteer. We don't work for Vivaldi. Any users may know the answer.
The feature request for a Profile Manager may give you a few pointers.
Seeing your latest post, look at the properties for each shortcut.
How are you starting the browser? Do you have a shortcut pinned to the start menu? Use the properties of Person 1 -Vivaldi for that, or pin that shortcut to the start menu, and unpin the old shortcut.
-
@Pesala
Oh... I didn't know that. Thanks for your kind help.
I saw that some people had some questions in the profile manager you've pointed, that could answer mine.
Many thanks for all your help.For now, I'll do that you said, to change the pinned shortcut so it can open the "Default" folder, instead the "Profile 1" folder.
Many many thanks!
