Subfolders in Bookmarks toolbar
-
My bookmarks are arranged in folders (groups). When I middle click on the group showing on the toolbar, all the links open as separate tabs (as in all other browsers I have tried).
However, in Vivaldi, where I have a sub-folder, when I middle click on that, instead of opening the contents, it ADDS the last opened tab to its contents and opens nothing. -
@stjamespark The lack of any context menu is a long-standing issue. The bug I report on 7-11-2018 as:
(VB-45943) Right-click on Bookmarks Bar Folder Adds Active Tab to Bookmarks
-
I think you misunderstood. Middle-clicking on a 'group' directly on the bookmarks toolbar opens every link in the group EXCEPT any subfolder. And that's fine by me.
However then middle-clicking on the sub-folder does NOT open it's contents - instead it adds the last used tab and nothing else happens. -
@stjamespark No. I did not misunderstand.
-
Then your solution did not work for me.

I posted this question a while back using the term 'group' instead of stack and got no satisfactory solution so I an trying again.
Having used other browsers I am familiar with bookmarks in groups, i.e. what Vivaldi calls folders. If I centre-click on a folder on bookmarks toolbar, each bookmark in the folder opens in its own tab. Great.
However if I have a subfolder within the main toolbar folder, when I centre-click on it, it does not open its contents as I hoped, but simply adds the last open tab to the list.
The difference is important to me and will make the difference between using Vivaldi or going back to Opera, where it does work in the way that I am used to.
Mod Edit: Corrected terminology to avoid confusion.

@stjamespark I merged your threads.
The correct terminology is "folders." Tab Stacks or groups of tabs are something else.
The answer has not changed. This is a long-standing issue, and the only solution is to use a workaround such as using the Bookmarks Panel. (Shortcut F4 to open/close the panels)
- Select a folder in the Bookmarks Panel, or
- Select multiple folders/bookmarks with Ctrl+Click, or Ctrl+Shift+Click to select a range
- Right-click to open them all (or middle-click a folder)
A warning will tell you that you're about to open a lot of bookmark links.
Go to Settings, Bookmarks to change the warning limit from 20 to whatever you prefer.

@Pesala Thanks for your reply. It's clear that I cannot get what I need from Vivaldi. I may return if ever things change.

Now well over a year later, I'm wondering if Vivaldi has made any enhancements that affect this issue.

@robertebrown Middle-click on a Bookmarks Bar subfolder seems to work for me now to open all bookmarks in the background, except that an extra speed dial tab also opens. I have reported that bug.
There is also a context menu now to open the bookmark subfolder contents in a new tab, background tab, etc.
