Speed Dial: Focus not in the page
-
-
Settings, tabs, focus page content on new tab.
If unchecked, the address bar is focused. -

Did not know that there is a mindset for it. Many thanks for the help!

VB-36693 does not fix the problem.
That's what this is about:
When I open a new tab with the + button, I see Speeddial.
I could always start typing immediately and was in the address bar.
When typing in the address bar, the history and bookmarks are accessed, which I often use.Now in Vivald a new tab will still open Speeddial via the + button. BUT the focus is now the search bar in Speeddial. It doesn't access history and bookmarks. I have deactivated the search bar in Speeddial.
If I now open a new tab via the + button, I end up in Speeddial again. BUT the focus is now the first field of Speeddial. This is totally impractical for me.
I would like it to be the same as in old browsers. Whenever you open Speeddial, the focus is in the address bar. As soon as my other page opens, the focus is in the page.
You can set that the focus is always in the address bar. But that is not desired. It should only be in the address bar at Speeddial.

@NotCompatible I can't replicate this here. When I hit the + button (or any other means of opening Speed Dial) the focus is in the address bar.

Yeah, that's it. If you click on +, Speeddial opens. The focus is in the address bar. So you can immediately enter an address and confirm with Enter.
But if I have deposited google.de in Speeddial, and click on it with the mouse, I want to have the focus in the page. So that in case of Google you can start with the input right away. And you don't have to change the focus from the address bar to the page first.
With Firefox this works by default. Even if the page is not called Speeddial.

I'm having the same issue. When I open the speed dial I want the address bar focused. So i.e. I press CTRL+T and just type my search query or address and press ENTER. But after that action or when I click on a page in speed dial I want the page content focused. For me this is important for having a fluent workflow for keyboard-only use cases.
So the problem seems that Vivaldi handles every tab the same. The speed dial is handled here just as a normal page. But it isn't. It is a page generated by Vivaldi and is one of the central pages.Would be great if we could set different focus options for normal web pages and speed dial (i.e. extra option point in settings -> speed dial).
