[SOLVED] Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1328.4
-
I've been using Snapshots for about a year but the most recent one, 1328.4, constantly crashes before I can load it. I have it installed on two different laptops, both Win 10 with i5/i7 and good amounts of RAM. I've never had this happen before and I've been forced to reinstall the stable version just to write this! Anyone else experienced this problem or any fixes? I've not posted to this forum before.
-
@jrwf555 No, the only people who have had that happen either had corrupt profiles or hostile 3rd party security software (which permitted earlier versions, but freaks out over the latest one).
-
@ayespy Thanks for your fast reply. It's unlikely to be a corrupt profile if it's been loaded on two separate laptops. Also the laptops use different 3rd party security software. Either way, is there a workaround or is it best just to wait for the next update?
-
@jrwf555 Neither. You have to remedy the condition. Are the instances on your two laptops synced with each other?
-
@ayespy hmm. Yes, both synced before the upgrade. Both the stable versions also sync with each other. I have a third laptop that's still running 2.0.1309.17 (Official Build) (64-bit) which I'm now scared to upgrade to 1328.4. But it also syncs fine. Not sure what other information I can give you.
-
@jrwf555 If they're synced, they could both have the same tab or other content that is killing the session when it tries to open. refresh your profile on one of the installations and see what happens.
-
@ayespy Ok, thanks. I'll give it a go. I'll get back later once I've followed the refresh your profile instructions

OK, I think the problem may be solved. Win 10 updated on one laptop to version 1803 without notifying me, while shifting files and folders, and renaming the Vivaldi software folder to 'Application' along the way. I now have 2.1.1328.4 running. So, a different question. If I rename 'Application' back to 'Vivaldi Snapshot', will that screw it up again?
-
@jrwf555 I can't see how. Mine are named all kinds of weird stuff. Are these standalone installs?
Gotta love Windows, no? Never had it rename my apps while updating (to 1803 and then 1809) but somehow it does not surprise me at all. Microsoft feels they, not you, should be in control of your machine.
-
@jrwf555 But now you've given me another question to ask users: "Did Windows update and rename your Vivaldi directory?" I never anticipated that...
-
@ayespy OK, I'll do the rename (also applies to Opera/Firefox which I've had on that machine). Well, love Windows I'll leave to others. I'd been fearing the 1809 upgrade (not yet here in New Zealand) given the recent publicity. But perhaps it will be all fixed by the time we get it here (yes, you can grin). For now, consider my problem resolved and many thanks for your help - very appreciated.
-
@jrwf555 My pleasure.
