Fox News won't open--"Not Secure" comes up
-
I'd like to make Vivaldi my default browser but I'm unable to view Fox News which is one of my primary sites because all I get is "Not Secure". Is there a way to get around this? If not I'll continue to use Opera Developer as my default browser.
-
@bear270 The "Not secure" means the website isn't secured enough. It doesn't mean Vivaldi isn't secure. It could be due to the fact foxnews still uses a http instead of a https (which is now the standard).
Edit : seems to be the case for Firefox as well.
Same for Chrome.
So the issue is at Foxnews side, not at browser side.
Seems to be due by the form on the site for submitting a search is not done via https but http, so any searches done on the site are submitted in plain text. -
Yes I know that Fox News is an http site rather than an https site. However, I still want to be able to access it. Unless there is a workaround in Vivaldi I'm going to stick with Opera. Do you know of a way to bypass the Not Secure notice? There should be a way to adjust the privacy level to accomplish that.
-
@bear270 What are you trying to do that gives you that message? I able to watch Fox and Fox News live here, with no error messages.

Sounds like Opera allows you through or allows you to bypass security. I'm thinking that's one very good reason NOT to continue with that browser.
-
I can also view Fox News without any real issues. However, the icon to the left of the address bar is not a green padlock and clicking on it looks like this:
So the site isn't secure, but it's not blocked by Vivaldi either. (And even if Vivaldi blocks a site there is usually a "Continue anyway" link somewhere.) -
@komposten I tried with Opera and the Not Secure notice appears as well.
In addition to that, I don't really understand your need. Do you ask Vivaldi to tell you that a website is safe while it represents a security risk?
As I wrote before, FoxNews isn't secured enough (Firefox, Chrome and Opera provide the same information about the security issue) so why do you want your browser to hide that reality?
Unless I misunderstood your request, I don't really understand what you are looking for. -
Opera Developer does show the Not Secure notice but I am able to view the news anyway. With Vivaldi Not Secure comes up and there is apparently no way to view the news. If someone has a way around this please let me know.
Unless/until I have a way to see Fox News on Vivaldi I'm sticking with Opera. Just because a site is http instead of https is no reason to totally block it's contents. It should be a warning yes but not a block. -
@bear270 Of course there is, because you can view http sites in Vivaldi.
-
I guess chromium now show any site which use HTTP as insecure.
However, it opens even with HTTPS, so better use that one.
It's not a big deal if you can see the site -- and if you don't do any critical with it: buying things, or putting your personal data in it.
On RC2 - ok, it's "old" - the playback fails, while in latest snap - and I guess in stable minor update - works. -
@ornorm I have not made a request for anything; I simply stated what happens when I open Fox News since it contradicts what @Bear270 finds when they open that site.
I think Vivaldi handles unsecure content properly (i.e. by blocking it, but often providing an option to access it anyway if the user wants to/know what they are doing). I definitely do not want it to lie about the security of sites, and have not stated that anywhere.
-
@komposten Sorry, I thought it was an answer from @Bear270 (ooooops!)
-
Fox News now comes in as secure but still won't show on vivaldi. There is an https site for Foxnews/US but that won't come in either. I think the problem is that the owners of vivaldi don't want fox news on their browser.
-
@millerb270 That's surely not the case. But if this were indeed true, it would be one more reason to use Vivaldi
-
@millerb270 Can you please explain which problem you're encountering more specifically?
I can go on Foxnews without any problem.
-
Fox News -- Not Secure.
A statement of the obvious, perhaps?
-
Vivaldi isn't blocking https://www.foxnews.com/ here,
but my brain is. :p -
I also an open FoxNews as secure site. All green, maybe a problem with FoxNews/US
