JW player not working

I use a site to watch videos for medical school. This site previously worked and I was able to stream all my videos. However, the Jw player they are using just isn't playing. When I login using chrome it works perfectly. Mind you I hate chrome!

@akv0712 Does vivaldi://gpu show that GPU hardware acceleration is enabled or does it show that you're using software-based rendering?
If your GPU has been blacklisted and hardware acceleration has been disabled, you won't be able to play media using the JW player in Vivaldi.
The only workaround currently available is to override the GPU blacklist by changing the following flag: vivaldi://flags/#ignore-gpu-blacklist
However, this has some risk because although it should get media playback working again, it could also introduce performance and/or stability issues. -

@akv0712 Vivaldi uses the native macOS platform libraries to play many types of media. If macOS does not fully support your graphics hardware, this can break media playback in Vivaldi.
I don't know what can be done to get this working but I'll check with the developers next week.

Some videos didn't play for me too, but also only on my hackintosh rigs. I'm replying because I think this will also affect a small percentage of macOS users on real MacPro4,1 and MacPro5,1 systems. Most of those users will need to upgrade their video cards to move to Mojave, since it's now Metal-only for UI.

It's a strange document from Apple. Consider this (emphasis added):
Some other third-party graphics cards based on the following AMD GPU families might also be compatible with macOS Mojave on Mac Pro (Mid 2010) and Mac Pro (Mid 2012)
That "might" is a pretty strong caveat. Mostly the issue is that cards without the right UEFI bios will just show blank screens through the boot process, up until driver activation in macOS itself.
Anyway--I fixed this on my hackintosh setups by changing my board-ID to iMacPro1,1, since it has a Vega 56 (I'm using an RX 580, so same driver family). As best I can tell:

So if you're a real Mac Pro 2010/2012 owner, and you upgrade your video card to modern AMD so you can use Mojave, you're just not going to get hardware decoding
Vivaldi is literally the only software where this affected me on a MacPro5,1 board ID, though. Even trailers in iTunes worked, which is the usual check for Apple-provided decoding functionality. I'm not sure if Vivaldi can workaround correctly to tell the Apple frameworks to fall back, short of including codecs/etc entirely (which seems like the issue here, compared to i.e. what Firefox/Chrome/etc are doing).
Anyway--just thought I'd brain dump this while it was still fresh. I'm certain that "old Mac Pro users who refuse to upgrade their chassis and are sick of Google's BS and want to use Vivaldi" are a pretty tiny minority, but in case this ever does bubble up the todo list priority, hopefully this info helps!
