Sync keeps disconnecting!!!! >:(
-
This is getting very tiresome. What could POSSIBLY be making Sync disconnect so frequently??? This is much more than a minor inconvenience. For example...
Computer #1 is the one that disconnects way too often. But I have no idea when it happens. So then I open Vivaldi on Computer #2. Bookmark changes I made on Comp#1 DO NOT get sync'd to Comp #2 because #1 has decided to disconnect at some point.
Sooo nowwwwww..... I have to reconnect Sync on Comp #1, and guess what! The bookmarks from Comp #2 get brought over, effectively undoing changes I made previously.
Now I Have to make those changes all over again. There MUST be something I can check into on my end. If there is ANYTHING that could disrupt the Sync connection on my end, PLEASE tell me! Otherwise, whatever is happening on V's end, PLEASE investigate and try to fix it.
I've been reporting this issue for a long time, and I know Sync is still in development, but wow.... disconnecting so much?? Why???

@joelyoung I have never noticed this happening, and I don't recall seeing any threads like this one.
Try disabling all extensions or cleaning your profile

@joelyoung I couldn't say. It stays connected here.

Here's one:

It has happened again, demolishing all my Speed Dial bookmarks on one computer...
-
@joelyoung Hey. At the moment, I don't have any other report of sync suffering regular disconnections. Can you let me know which version of Vivaldi you are seeing this with and what you see in the sync settings dialog when a disconnection occurs?

It's been happening on snapshots for quite a while. Right now I have 2.0.1302.3 and the problem hasn't occurred... yet. But when it does happen, I never know it until I go to use my second laptop and see that new bookmarks aren't there. And in Settings > Sync I am totally logged out of my Vivaldi account. I have to log in again, and enter my encryption password to sync everything; and that's when the unmodified bookmarks and settings are pulled in from the server, because the new stuff has never gotten there.
-
@julien_picalausa Snapshot 2.0.1302.3 and it happened just a couple minutes ago. Here's what I see. In this case I am still logged in but sync is disconnected. Sometimes I'm not even logged in.
-
FYI, the only extensions I have installed are Abode Acrobat and LastPass.
-
@joelyoung Ok, that looks really annoying. It strikes me as odd that you are not seeing any error message there. It looks like Sync spontaneously deactivated itself, which I didn't know was even possible. And if I am understanding what you say properly, it sometimes also logs you out completely, which should only really happen while Vivaldi is running if your vivaldi.net credentials got invalidated (by changing password for instance).
So, that seem to indicate that you have two different issues which as far as I know are both pretty unlikely. I'm going to take a shot in the dark and suggest that maybe something on your computer is interfering with Vivaldi's connection to the sync server. If you have any extension installed in Vivaldi itself, they could also be a source of issues.
I will be on the lookout for other people reporting similar issues and see if we have any way to reproduce internally, which would hopefully allow to fix it. I will also ask Hlini to check if anything weird is happening to your account on the server-side.
Let's get to the bottom of this.

@julien_picalausa Updated a few minutes ago to the latest snapshot (1309.17 / 2.0 RC 1) and Sync was disabled again.
I have only Adobe Acrobat and LastPass extensions. No other extensions have ever been installed in any version of Vivaldi I've used.
Windows 10 Home x64 with all the latest updates. I'm not a gamer, and use this laptop mostly for Web surfing and email. If you like, I can send you a complete list of everything this machine is running. Private message or email rather than in a post of course.

I have similar sync problems with the latest snapshot 2.0.1309.17. Please see this thread:

Similar Problems here.
Computer 1: (Manjaro(Arch Linux) Kernel 4.18.12-1)
Vivaldi 2.0.1309.40 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)

I am usually logged off from Vivaldi.net compleetly.
It occures nearly each time if the other computer was online in between. So C1 means using computer one and turning it of, C2 the same for computer 2.
C1(loggedd in) -> C1 (no problem) ->C2(need to relogin) -> C2(no problem) -> C1(need to relogin).
I am pretty sure you are able to predict how often it occurse by rading out the logs of my account, which i allow you hereby.
(and yes i know theres a newer windows version but i didnt updated befor i made this post, but i highly doubt its a problem of the client software)

I am not sure if i have one doing so.
My extensions are:
uBlock (origin)
uMatrix
Zotero

I think the sync server itself is having issues... Since the weekend I have seen sync unable to connect on three computers on different networks using both snapshot and stable for two different users...

@gwen-dragon yeah works for me too now

I know this is an old thread but I'm replying in case my experience might help someone else.
I was also having problems with sync frequently and repeatedly becoming disconnected, for no apparent reason. After quite a bit of sleuthing, I figured out it was because I use system utility CCleaner which, it turns out, was set to delete all passwords stored by the browser (because I use a separate password manager and don't want my browsers storing login info and passwords). So every time CCleaner ran, it would delete my Vivaldi sync password, and Vivaldi would report that Sync had been disconnected. I kept thinking the problem was somewhere in Vivaldi or the sync function or something, so it took a while for me to figure it out.
The fix is just to go to CCleaner / Custom Clean / Applications / Vivaldi, and make sure Saved Passwords is unchecked. I'm pretty sure other system cleaning utilities have similar functions and settings.
Hope this helps somebody fix the problem faster than I did!
