What is not reliable and even dangerous is the Scamadviser service
Oooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh, now finally i understand, sorry for me being dim. It was late last night when i read your earlier reply, & then i replied. Clearly i see now, after sleep, that i totally misunderstood your earlier info, silly me.
So, if i do finally comprehend the bigger picture, this is my summary:
- My V-SS profile is somehow corrupt again & needs rebuilding [coz no other Vuser experiences the UI-destruction at that url that i posted]
- Google believes that the BestVPN site might be dodgy.
- WoT believes that the ScamAdviser site is dodgy.
-
@steffie You're welcome.

Well, i hope i don't put the kybosh on it by now posting this, but touch wood my V-SS seems to be good again now. That suspect url now simply triggers the standard Google Safe Browsing defence response in the single tab, does not any longer destroy the whole UI, & the Go Back button works correctly. Phew.
I did not need to build a new profile from the ground up, as it transpired. I discovered that an instance of V-SS that i have in one of my VMs, behaved correctly for that url. So i only had to copy my real V-SS' Bookmarks, Notes & History into the VM's Default, verify that it still did not break, then i was able simply to copy that VM's complete Default directory back to my real OS, & voila, all good again. I made sure first before doing the above that i exported my broken V-SS instance's Extensions' critical data [Note Board, uMatrix, Stylus, & Vanilla Cookies] for successful later reimport into the recycled profile.
I believe that the corruption is in one or more of these files from my original profile; Custom Dictionary.txt, Favicons, Top Sites, or Web Data. I believe this coz during this investigation, after initially confirming that the VM's V-SS was NOT corrupt, i tried copying those files just listed, PLUS my aforementioned Bookmarks, Notes & History, but then found the VM V-SS suffered the same nasty UI-destruction when trying that url as my real V-SS. Conversely when i repeated the exercise but this time only importing the "real" Bookmarks, Notes & History into the VM but NOT any of the other four files, the VM's V-SS remained happy. Luckily i do not regard those four files as essential, whereas certainly my Notes & Bookmarks are critically important... & History is nice to be able to preserve.
I've now reset the Doomsday Clock to count down the days til the next time i somehow break my V-SS.

@gwen-dragon Yeah... though it might not have been clear amongst all my many words, the thing i was actually most worried about was the corruption of my profile [ie, the UI becoming destroyed by that url once GSB fenced it off].
Obviously the question of whether that specific url's website is "bad" or "good" is important too, but at the end of the day i'm completely happy to abandon a single dodgy website... what i don't want though is for my browser to break when it encounters that site [or i suppose any other GSB-protected site]. I was really shocked when i discovered that indeed, that site broke my Snapshot completely; it became unusable as my pics showed.
-
@steffie It is perfectly clear that the issue is the crash, not the GSB warning.
-
@gwen-dragon The puzzle is... was my profile already corrupted & this url/+GSB exploited it, or was my profile good then this url/+GSB broke it? I do not know.
-
@steffie I tested your link yesterday while doing some personal stuff at the same time (= I didn't it very meticulously), so I missed something in the snapshot: when I try to reach the site, I am blocked by GSB. Hence I go back to security. And a weird thing happens: I don't go back to the previous tab (as expected and as it happens on stable version), but instead a new tab opens with a google favicon:
The new tab is my home page as expected, that's why I didn't notice the oddity (the google favicon).
This strange behaviour only happens in my snapshot, not in stable (that works smoothly as expected).
Maybe there is something wrong in the handling of GSB. You profile may be corrupted, mine too. Those two corrupted profile would lead to a ggogle weirdness (as we use different OSes [I'm on the dark side of the forceβ¦], it could be the reason why I ddn't experience the UI crash)? Or is there some kind of bug here?
-
@hlehyaric Wow... the mystery possibly deepens!
PS:

Haha, that's the sort of thing i would say. I like it, teehee.

That's why I wrote it. TBH, I really enjoy your sense of humour.

It's like Ghost Busters
Being late to the party, two nights ago i finally got around to streaming the 2016? reboot... & i loved it. All the vicious misogynists who so vilely panned it can go hang themselves for all i care. The four leads were great, & i really enjoyed the myriad aspects big & tiny reflecting the female sensibility in life. More please. All that said, i totally adored the cameos by the surviving stars, teehee.
MIB (in or in our case WIB
MiB: fantastically funny films, but i would love love love to see WiB !!!

A snapshot can break your browser profile
Yes, i acknowledge that i do voluntarily accept a degree of risk by preferring Snaps over Stables, as of course do all other SS Vusers. It's just that... gosh i have had to rebuild my profile sooooooooooo many times over the past three years. Like i said before, i feel that i must somehow be digitally toxic. Ones see me & immediately flip into Zeros. Bummer.

David Tennant
Oooooh!! He was a great Doctor. Matt Smith was a very different but still great Doctor. Peter Capaldi was a great Malcolm Tucker.
I am soooooooooooooooo looking forward to Jodie!!

@gwen-dragon I do not use Sync -- ever -- so that's not a root cause for me. And of course i use only Linux these days, hardly ever feel inclined to fire up my Win10 VM, so i cannot say if my Win10 V-SS instance also would have succumbed to this problem... albeit i assume it would, as surely this could not be something caused by Linux?
Who knows? [maybe she might tell us...].
Geddit, "Who"? Teehee.
