Vivaldi shows as Start Page in Ubuntu
-
Just (again) installed Vivaldi in Ubuntu. It doesn't show as Vivaldi, but Start Page.
-
@chdsl Don't know why it would do that. It shows as Vivaldi in Mint 18.1
-
@ayespy
It doesn't in Windows 10 (latest). It doesn't in an earlier install in Ubuntu (Unity). This one, I installed yesterday. Ubuntu was installed also yesterday. -
@chdsl Frankly, I do not understand how this happens for you. I have Vivaldi installed on ten different OS'es (including Win10, Win7 Linux LXLE and Linux Mint) on nine different computers right now and every single one of them identifies Vivaldi as Vivaldi. None of them identify it as Start Page. I don't know what you are doing there, but it is possibly in some way not standard.

@ayespy
This is the 1st time it happened to me. I have Vivaldi in 4 laptops; Windows 10, and in Arch, Debian, Ubuntu (and derivatives), Solus etc.I looked in the /usr/share/applications folder. It says, its Vivaldi. The desktop file is vivaldi-stable.desktop. It is bit strange, why it names itself Start Page.
Maybe, this is just one time bug, or something more than that. Maybe, the devs would have a look at it. It doesn't trouble me at all. Just reporting.
-
@chdsl Strange, it also shows as Vivaldi for me in Windows 10 Pro and Linux Mint KDE 18.3.
Note:
Stable shows "Vivaldi"
Snapshot shows "Vivaldi Snapshot" -
@tbgbe
It still says it is Start Page, and with Vivaldi logo.It maybe a one time bug. I don't mind it, as I have " a different" Vivaldi than other users.

Clarification pls? Is your offending Ubuntu the current flavour that uses GNOME-shell? Your older good Ubuntu used Unity. Any chance that the fault simply lies with GNOME-shell? If so, it would just be another bug to add to GS's apparently long list.
I know i'm a bad woman for indulging myself by this remark, but... phew, yet another reason i'm glad i avoid Ubuntu [& GNOME] like the plague.

Test in the guest session or create a new user account to test.

Strangely, it is on the good old Unity. I don't and won't use Gnome-shell. When, Unity can't be installed in Ubuntu, I'd simply stop using Ubuntu.
I don't consider this as a bug. Just something strange that had happened. I even like it.

@chdsl
Don't see it in Unity 16.04.
Look in ~/.local/share/applications for an overriding desktop file. -
