Scrollbar bug?

Is fixed in internal daily Snapshot. You perhaps may get a fix next week, but i can't swear on a correct release timeline.
Can you confirm that it's in today's build, despite (unfortunately) not being mentioned?
At least testing with Tweetdeck it seems to be gone, but I'm far from sure overall.

@rufford155 Although this bug only seems to affect some users, it is quite severe for them. This thread if four months old, so the bug was probably reported before that. Some bugs get squashed in days, while others take weeks, months, or years.
No doubt this bug will be announced on the Snapshot Team Blog when it is fixed. All we can do is wait patiently. The small team fixes bugs and regression constantly, but the list is long.
-
I don't think we can assume that the fix will be announced. As a recent example, the long-in-coming tab stack bug was finally fixed after well over a year in the last snapshot, but nary a word was mentioned about it.
So, is anyone still seeing this in the last snapshot? I've been testing somewhat on Tweetdeck (somewhat, because the snapshot isn't my main browser), but I haven't seen it recur yet.
Other sites to test where it's been known to happen?
-
@rseiler I don't know about the current snapshot, but in latest version, 1.15.1147.64, it still happens when "smooth scrolling" is checked.
-
@rufford155 Do you mean in 1.16 (snapshot), too? No question about 1.15 (that's where the problem started).
-
@rseiler
in fact, I just tried several times with the option "Smooth Scrolling" on: I could not reproduce the bug (up to now)
I use an "old" snapshot 1.16.1246.7 (Official Build) (32-bit)So, may be the bug was fixed...
-
@lucius OK, that's good, though I wish Vivaldi would be a little more complete in their release notes so we don't have to keep wondering.
It's good that you tested with smooth scrolling on, since I have both smooth scrolling settings off. That never helped 1.15, despite initial thoughts that it did, so I don't expect they're meaningful to 1.16 either for this problem.
Still haven't seen it happen in 1.16.1279.3 (Official Build) (64-bit).

Given obscure nature of the issue, it's hard to say for certain, if it was solved or not.
I haven't experienced it myself with 1.15 for last weeks. -
Of course I have it off. I only have spare CPU for actually useful tasks.
-
@lucius I can confirm it on my Windows 10. It's present on Facebook, gmail (i think) and some other sites. It's annoying to the point where i consider a browser change.

That's most curious. I don't even have a theory about how that's possible, for someone who's already seen it.

I haven't even attempted an update for a long time. I've been using 1.14, faithfully looking for the scrollbar bug fix in the snapshots.
Since the latest version also updated the Chromium back end, I figured I'd give it a try.
At least for me, the issue is FIXED with version 2.0.1296.4

@bygjymbo Hot diggity dog.

I have tried the 2.x snapshot, and yes, it seems like the scrolling issue is fixed., Unfortunately I was finding that some pinned tab icons didn't appear, at least one of my addins didn't work, and the ability to turn on flash for a site didn't work. I know, its in development. I went back to 1.15.xx and even more unfortunately, i now encounter the "your profile is from a newer version of vivaldi" error message every time I start vivaldi. Not something I want to spend time dealing with. I hope that I remember this, and never try a snapshot again, and, not update again to newer version until is has been out for quite a while. Would be good if Vivaldi eliminated this happening when going back to an older version.

@astro46 What you should do is install the Snapshots as a Standalone version then it will have its own profile. You can keep both versions up-to-date and use both at once if you wish.
If you install your extensions again for the Snapshot version you may find that the icon problem disappears.

VirtualBox is free, and you can install trial version of Windows in it for free, as well.
Saves you from issues like this one. -
