Mail Tab Always Appears on Opening Vivaldi
-
I imagine you've already thought of the following possibilities, but it might help to know what you have already ruled out:
1. Is mail, by any chance, set as homepage under Startup in the settings? (even if it is, this really shouldn't be the reason)
2. Is the mail tab, by any chance, pinned? (again, I wouldn't think so)
3. Have you checked the tab process ID (see Tools > Task Manager or vivaldi://memory-redirect) and verified (in Vivaldi Task Manager and Windows Task Manager and/or Sysinternals Process Explorer) that the vivaldi.exe process for the mail tab/PID actually closes when you close the tab? (of course, it should, but just checking)
4. Have you checked (in a text editor) whether the mail URL still occurs in the Current Session file after you close the tab and exit Vivaldi? (The file will be locked if you try to open it while Vivaldi is still running. If you've closed the tab before exiting Vivaldi, I don't think the mail URL should still occur in the file; but if it does, I don't know what to do about it.)
5. Is there, by any chance, a setting in the webmail that might determine this? (Again, I wouldn't think so, but I haven't used or explored the webmail.)
6. What else, if anything, have you already ruled out? -
gdveggie - Thank you for the response.
1 - The NY Times is my home page and it works correctly.
2 - How do I check to see if the tab is pinned? If it is, it was not done intentionally.
3 - Closing the mail tab is where I have been running into problems all day. When I start Vivaldi and check the task manager and Resource Monitor, I see that Mail is listed as an APP and the a webview. When I close the Mail tab, the processes are still opened. When I kill the process, it crashes Vivaldi. Then I need to do into the Resource Monitor and manually kill all of the Vivaldi processes so I can restart the browser. I have walked my Vivaldi installations back from 1.0.142.32 down to 1.0.138.4 to see if it makes any difference - it doesn't. SEE ATTACHMENTS
4 - I can't find the mail url in the Current Session or in the Last Session folders.
5 - I am unable to find any settings for webmail, so I don't know where to look.
If you can point me to how to pin an APP to Vivaldi, I will see if I did that. Other than that, I think I am going to backup some of my User Data files, uninstall Vivaldi and delete everything, including the registry entries and start with a fresh install, then start adding my data back a file at a time.
This is driving me crazy. It reminds me of years ago when I would spend 20+ hours a day solving (or trying to solve) computer problems.

I tried the accidentally-released version with mail, too, and it played Hobb with my system and my other version of Vivaldi. Finally had to scrub the system (apart from backup of my personal preferences and data) of Vivaldi versions and start afresh. That is what I recommend.

I have same problem since the last version.
I thought it is because of the non official mail enabled version that came to my computer last week.I also have an invisible youtube ghost tab that starts playing when I start vivaldi and can only closed via task manager.

Thank you for your experiences and suggestions. I am going to backup the current App Data and scrub and re-install. I will let you know how it goes.

Well I got rid of the Mail tab. To do it I copied the App Data for the defective installation to a new folder, then did a COMPLETE UNINSTALL for Vivaldi. I then did a re-install of the current install - 1.0.142.32 - and NO Mail tab. I then set up my preferences, re-installed the bookmarks, passwords, history, the Top Sites and Top Sites Journal (these files contain the Speed Dials and their subordinate sites).
I have a couple of sites I will have to reconfigure, specifically the Favorite Listings for sites like TV Guide's local programming, etc. It also looks like some of my passwords will have to be reset.
Not only did I get rid the Mail tab, but I also regained the ability to slide the open tabs into the positions I want. Before this re-install, the tabs were locked into some position I could not alter.
Overall I am a happy camper.

Yay! This is an unfortunate cost of testing green software, but for me, it's totally worth it.

I agree - that is why I have made Vivaldi my default browser.

Welcome to the "default club," litehorse3! The more of us there are, the more real-world testing will be done, and the faster this project will mature.

Just now finally got back here to your thread. Glad to see you got it sorted out.
I was guessing a fresh new profile with copies of relevant files from previous installation profile might be the final solution, but didn't know what remaining troubleshooting steps might be worth trying first. I recall seeing Ayespye's mention of a briefly available Vivaldi version with mail (before my time :P), but the possible need to cleanup or start fresh after installing that version would never have occurred to me.
