since the last 2 stable versions, embedded youtube videos on various sites give me an error.
I can only watch them direktly on youtube. What can I do ? -
- Post a link to such sites for others to test.
- Do these embedded YouTube videos play for you?
If no one can suggest a solution, submit a Bug Report

Sorry my magic sphere is not working. I need more information.
Which sites?
Which error?
Which Windows version?it seems all sites where embedded videos could happen, twitter, news sites, facebook...
Windows version 1709 Build:16299.248@pesala
well... I'm filling bug reports about video stuttering, dead birds, memory usage and a lot of other stuff all the time... every update makes it worse for me. I'm getting tired. I really was loving vivaldi with version 1.11 but its just getting worse for me. It seems I have to go back to chrome. Don't know, sad to say all my faith in vivaldi is vanishing...I've also installed FP_28_for_Opera_and_Chromium_-_PPAPI if that info is needed as well.
...it's just like vivaldi doesn't like my Ryzen 1700x PC setup..
//EDIT:
Seems to be working on standalone snapshot 1.15.1111.3 (64-Bit) (addons / plugins /everything synced with my stable version 1.14.1077.55 where videos are not playing) -
@gwen-dragon said in embedded Youtube videos are broken.:
The 1.14 Stable fails whereas the 1.15 Snapshot works.
Currently the Stable has a newer engine (Chromium 64.0.3282.189), the snapshot has 64.0.3282.170.Try to check if your GPU works for video decoding.
Open vivaldi://gpu and tell us Graphics Feature Status.Graphics Feature Status
Canvas: Hardware accelerated
CheckerImaging: Disabled
Flash: Hardware accelerated
Flash Stage3D: Hardware accelerated
Flash Stage3D Baseline profile: Hardware accelerated
Compositing: Hardware accelerated
Multiple Raster Threads: Enabled
Native GpuMemoryBuffers: Software only. Hardware acceleration disabled
Rasterization: Hardware accelerated
Video Decode: Hardware accelerated
WebGL: Hardware accelerated
WebGL2: Hardware accelerated(normally I have HW acceleration disabled) but for now I have it activated)
Try to override GPU blacklisting by opening
vivaldi://flags/#ignore-gpu-blacklist
, select Activate from dropdown and restart Vivaldi.I have set this flag for a long time since you told me so already cos of the tons of dead birds I face (older thread)
Or it is issue with your Windows graphics card driver.
Please check on https://demo.castlabs.com which video work and which fails.All of those videos work just fine

Then check your Extensions which may interfere.
hmmm.... it seems starting vivaldi with 'vivaldi --disable-extensions' the embedded videos work again.
interesting, cos I don't have any Youtube related extension installed... I'll reactivate one after one and see which one is causing the behavior.Thanks for you endurance with me

@gwen-dragon
Found the culprit!
It seems it's the latest update from the ghostery extensions fault. Disabling its "advanced anti-tracking" option makes embedded videos work again for me.So now I feel sorry for blaming vivaldi 'FeelsBadMan'
And I found my faith in it again. -
@freeman79 Hi Freeman79
I had the same issue not 2 but many snapshots using Mac before this one. In case you have tested this already I can assure you that it is not related to some extension of yours. IMO here is the culprit: Vivaldi’s own user-agent string. One and same page in Vivaldi and Safari with embedded videos showed me no clips in Vivaldi.
Second, it can be due to the flash not been enabled for a given website that has those embedded youtube videos.
Do the following:- Use the same test website: http://www.aimwell.org/videos.html , and try to allow Flash from Site Settings.
- Install some extension to change the default Vivaldi user-agent. I am on Mac, and I am using: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_9_5) AppleWebKit/601.7.8 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/9.1.3 Safari/537.86.7
BTW here is a page you may check your user-agent: https://www.esolutions.se/whatsmyinfo
Removing Vivaldi’s own version number and/or the Chrome version number may be enough.
Vivaldi is not perfect still.

@zmeypc
Hi zmeypcThanks for the Info.
I have enabled ghosterys advanced anti-tracking again.
Enabling flash didn't do the trick, but changing the user agent string fromMozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.189 Safari/537.36 Vivaldi/1.95.1077.55
to
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/537.36
did it!
//EDIT:
hmm... now some other websites look weird. I'll try out some other user agent strings.
Great tipp! thanks again//EDIT:
using
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.186 Safari/537.36
now. Works perfekt! ...maybe just placebo, but I feel even faster loading times now. -

I am using Ghostery too. And will never disable it. +Advanced anti-tracking with 0 exceptions.
I am glad you did it. Sometimes, if a certain embedded flash returns the same error, just try to allow Flash for this site.
I am glad you did it, man
Cheers!

JFYI Please, do some restarts (I mean Vivaldi), and if you have in your Windows something like Disk Utility like I have in Mac OS X, do the necessary to purge the temporary data. You may also want to reinitialize the Flash data (System Preferences on Mac Control Panel in Windows).
-
@gwen-dragon Nevertheless, what I describe is working (see the screenshots in 1st post). One and same website opened in Safari and than in Vivaldi showed me what Freeman79 has reported. Both browsers I am using were using identical extensions (including ghostery).
Even today Safari is capable to play much more medias than Vivaldi. Its non relevant user-agent and the chromium internal remains are the main problem. I am using Vivaldi from 2015 and I know what I am speaking.
The fact that one website is using a HTML5 player does not guarantee that it will run at 100% in Vivaldi. Which is not the case of Safari. (Plus the ad blocking & alias extensions users always install). -
@gwen-dragon
It's true, flash isn't needed but anyway that hint from @zmeYpc was a diamond one!
Changing the user-agent fixed a lot of stuff for me now, not only the embedded videos but also MUCH less dropped frames and less stuttering 60FPS Streams on twitch. I was even able to watch a very long stream without a dead bird, yesterday. And those dead birds happend for me all the time since I started using vivaldi. -
@freeman79
It may be related to an issue with 3rd party content embedded in an iframe and not just video.Here is a site where iframe embedded youtube vids don't play:
http://www.antischool.us/Here is a site where iframe embedded Disqus comments are not displayed:

@freeman79 Thanks, but that didn't work.
I did however finally solve the problem and it was (of course) self-inflicted. I had enabled 'strict site isolation' in vivaldi://flags in a fit of paranoia and forgot about it. There is a warning at the top of the flags page that warns that the experiments there can 'bite' and I got bit.
So in the immortal words of Rosanne Rosannadanna, "Never mind!"

I forgot to reply to you (before Freeman79 did it) here, that I also checked your links, and:

Cheers!
PS I’d suggest you to install some user-agent ext, and see yourself (how sites welcome Vivaldi). -
@gwen-dragon I also had this problem it latest Snapshots, so I moved to stable release channel. From my observation, it has nothing to do with profile or extensions. The same problem was while using private mode. But I enabled "Strict site isolation (
#enable-site-per-process
)" deliberately to strengthen security due to Meltdown and Spectre, as it is one of suggested step on many security sites for Chromium based browsers. And yet, there's no problem with playing of iframe videos with this option enabled on Chromium releases. -
Is there any plan to fix this issue? To be able to have secure browser and at the same time to be able to play iframe videos/content?
-
@stealth789 Chromium is in the process of fixing it.
