zdf.de no video, but chromium ok. (for testers, it's country restricted: DE)

On zdf.de I get "LEIDER WIRD KEIN VIDEOFORMAT VON IHREM GERÄT UNTERSTÜTZT." (=No video format (?) supported by your device) wheresas chromium plays the file. It seems zdf has become somewhat pickier about the user agent than it was in the past.

vivaldi stable: 1.14.1077.50 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)
vivaldi snapshot: 1.15.1104.3 (Offizieller Build) snapshot (64-Bit)But what can I do?

@michaa7 The Live stream (Olympics) is country restricted.
However, news shows such as https://www.zdf.de/nachrichten/heute-19-uhr/180221-19h-100.html
plays OK for me on Vivaldi 1.15.1104.3 running on Windows 10 Pro.
I realise your on Linux, but I'm not sure the difficulty is the user agent.Check the links/scripts from the later posts in the Video Problems thread:

@gwen-dragon
I had the newest codecs installed already, but just to be sure I updated your script (thanks for your service) and run it. Codecs were the newest.
So tell me, can you play this file?
https://www.zdf.de/serien/die-rosenheim-cops/da-fehlt-etwas-100.htmlBut after playing around a little bit I found out that I can play that file when coping the url to a new tab. Which is odd because it is exactly the same URL ... and I can reproduce it.

@gwen-dragon
Thanks.
Of the 5 files I can play three. Both DRM protected files (BBB) won't play (I assume this is expected?).

-
Ok, thanks re DRM.
I've no extensions installed. I can live with the workaround (copying URL) so I consider the issue mitigated.
Thank's again.
-
Same Problem here. ZDF says no supported video format found.
Even copy'n Paste of the url into a new tab doesn't work.
I have a LMDE2 (based on stable debian) and ffmpeg version 2.6.9 installed. -
@otscho
I had problems with zdf.de since some time (month). Now, although all the codecs were the newest ones according to the output of gwen-dragons script, after retrying it again videos on zdf.de now work as expected.
So re-installing the codec might be helpfull although I hate these kind of solutions because they remind me of Windows times ... -
@Gwen-Dragon thank you for the hint. I investigated the installed codecs with your script. There was an older version in .local/lib/vivaldi/libffmpeg.so
After installing the newest ones for current user all is fine now.
Videos on zdf now work like a charm.
Is the cron-job option of your script able to install codecs only for current user with the -u switch?@michaa7 Maybe the cron-job option of Gwen-Dragons script is a solution for you. So you don't have to reinstall manually.
-
@gwen-dragon Thank you. I directly tested your new script. Works.
New Investigation Information is nice.
I recently added a cronjob entry for user.
Also added two lines to your Script, so I get a notification via 'notify-send' when the cronjob has done its job where it tells me whether codec is up to date or codec got updated. -
