A new Webmail interface is ready for testing!

  • Vivaldi Team

Hi everyone, Browser development including Mail client is ongoing as you probably know but we have also worked on a new webmail interface, which is now available for testing :) You can use the same login credential as our existing web client and it can be tested from here. http://webmail.vivaldi.net/ Please try it out and tell us what you think!

  • UI Looks great for me. Will it eventually sync with the theme a user has selected in Vivaldi Community? Not a deal breaker or anything just wondering if that is in the plans?

  • Calendar with CalDAV support :woohoo:
Thank you for your hard work, Team.
    Keep it going !

Webmail does not concatenate parts of splitted large messages [message/partial multipart messages (RFC1341)]

PS: I know a Webmail client is not really a multiuse mail client, but i wish… ;)

  • I really like the new UI, clean, fast but not oversimplified, really a good job guys ! ;)

I really hope that something similar will be done on the forum board, which still is one of the less clear UI I ever seen

  • really nice i like it vivaldi is my fav social network

  • tutsuki did you guys design this new webmail interface from scratch ? just wondering

  • Looks really nice!!! :)

Bug: confirmation email dated March 20, 2014 18:32, but should be March 23, 2015 approximately 17:32 (same on both webmail.vivaldi.net and mail.vivaldi.net UIs)

Questions: I had not tried out the previous webmail UI so I wasn't sure exactly how this worked. I simply entered my gdveggie UID and password, and a new [email protected]~~~~~~.net email account was created automatically. So I have a couple of questions:

    1. If I log in to either the Vivaldi forum or Vivaldi mail, will I also automatically be logged in to the other? ( I think I would rather not be, but I'm not clear about the pros and cons.)

    2. If the forum and email systems are linked, is it possible to have a different email address, other than [email protected]~~~~~~.net? (I think I'd rather use and give out to others a different email "name" than my forum UID, but again, I'm not sure about the pros and cons if the systems are linked. It appears the webmail client allows easy creation and use other identities, so I could create and give out another email name to others. But I'm not sure I would want gdveggie associated with the email at all. For example, one potential problem would seem to be that anyone could easily scrape all the usernames from the forum, append @vivaldi.net, and spam everyone who has registered in the forums.)

  • The design is really beautiful, it's also very fast and intuitive. I also like the calendar.

It would be good if it would be possible to make the lines individually smaller, otherwise I like the size proportion.

Like it much better then the current roundcube :)

    • finally filter functions
    • folder managment, even with subfolders - very good
    • very cool calendar
    • different languages
    • very clear and modern design
    • reading mail on the side - perfect :)

    –------------------------

    needs and suggestions:

    aliases support
mails should pushed to the web interface as they arrives
finding Vivaldi Mail through Google and other search engines, very important to get into Vivaldi Mail in certain situations
    smartphone + tablet interfaces
verification and password reset through cell phone or alternative email
a little more smoothness in reaction
slimer lines in the overall mail view
darker font in the overall mail view & search window, to tiring for eyes to read it

I like the red Vivaldi design highlights on buttons very much ^^ - but the background is to dark for me, so here i would like a brighter background but WITH the red Vivaldi color scheme ;) ( i don't want miss it )

Also the bright background could have some abstract highlights on the free space ? That it does not look empty but cozy.

When will the new Vivaldi webmail replace Roundcube ? ;)

  • Hey Telegram!

    Thanks for the feedback.

We are working on alias support.
There's already a smartphone interface, and that should be enabled by default when browsing on mobile, at least in Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android. Some users might get the full desktop interface, we're working on a fix.
We have just added a light theme, you can select it in Settings -> Common -> Skins.

The new webmail will become the default after a bit more testing and tweaking but the old interface will still be available.

    Cheers,
Steinar - Developer - Vivaldi Iceland

  • Subfolder is possible to create, but not to use, looking forward to use it when it's ready.

This will please a lot of people that you work on alias support :)

Okay, i will try it today with a Android phone, I thought that there is no mobile version, very cool.

Yes i know, had tried the bright - but now it looks very good with red visual feeback and the background. I will use it :)

Thanks, i'm looking forward it, cheers ;)

    • new unread mails should be marked more conspicuous ( maybe in a paler tone of the "My Calendar" bar colour )
    • faster loading of the mails, i'm sure it is coming
    • visual feedback if you scroll over the various mail lines in the mail list

Nice webmail, fast and clean, thanks for the great work
Is an import from Opera contacts file (.adr format) planned ?
Hope to see a calendar in Vivaldi Browser to synchronize with Vivaldi Webmail :)

  • Vivaldi Team

Hi ra-mon and thanks for the suggestions.
We have not looked into importing contacts from Opera yet, although we might if we there is a lot of interest.

Until then I can point you to this website:
    http://hallvord.com/opera/adr2tab.htm

Just be sure to choose Comma-separeted and to change the Fields names before you import.

    Regards,

System Administrator - Vivaldi - Iceland

  • Hope you add a info of storage space in Vivaldi Mail :)

  • I am not a fan of web mail, but it looks quite usable.

I was able to log in with Opera 12.17, and set it to remember me.

However, it wasn't possible to log-in without re-entering my Username and password.

I had the same results when using Vivaldi.

  • Because i like the new webmail, even more feedback ^^ :

    • Multiple MX Mail Exchanger resource records to ensure constant stability. It's a Must-Have since many people use @vivaldi.net
      as their main mail address

    • An Login Activity Feature which records the locations and IP addresses of each sign-in of the account. Guys this feature just would be really awesome and just for mail this sense of security is very important

    • Possibility to mail for the case of fall to postmaster address

    • Possibility to edit settings like password directly from webmail interface.

    • An own Vivaldi Mail Blog would be nice, where you can post about newest developments and security. It would provide trust and more direct communication.

That's it with the suggestions from weekend. Nice sunday and good start in monday ;)

  • I checked the new Mail site and I think it looks really good. The menu and settings choices allow me to customize it for my preferences - I like that. I am going to be trying it out, but I am just not ready to give up Outlook at this time. I have contacts and calendar items going back over 15 years. I am not sure that I could import all of that data with mishaps, so I will wait and see.

I really agree with gdveggie's concerns about our email addresses. If Vivaldi web mail defaults to our Vivaldi log-in name plus "@vivaldi.net", then that would be a setup for exploitation by spammers and hi-jackers. Over the years I have opened myself up for spam and I really don't need any more.

    Yep i also agree.

I remember the developers said last summer that they will discuss the possibility to change the nicknames for the forum, at least how they should be displayed. That would be one way to protect the email adresses.

The other will be the alias support and here they work on it :)

For this reason i have up to now two separate accounts, for mail and for forum.

At least you will not appear online when you are only logged in webmail. Which i find good.
Also they said that they work on alias support, so we can create other @vivaldi.net adresses, hopefully it comes soon :)
