Some sites like 1337x[io] download coin miner in directory
      C:\Users\ <user>\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Cache\

I have not checked with other browsers though.
      Maybe a common problem

Ehrm it would be nice when you post a link to a malicious Website, that you make it not clickable - something like this '''1337x[dot]io'''

@purgatori said in [Security] crypto miner gets downloaded in cache on opening some sites:

Steering clear of (and not linking to 😉 ) questionable sites is probably an even better preventative measure.

Not always possible as these miners market themselves as an alternative source of revenue to more common advertisements.
Any legitimate site can drop a conventional ad and replace it with a crypto-miner.

@greybeard they can get stuffed and close the site for good for what concerns me.

@greybeard which is an even stronger argument for @purgatoris other point - use ad blockers 😉

Vivaldi Snapshot (current as soon as possible) on MacOS Sierra and High Sierra. Enough RAM.

@gotham13121997 No need to be sorry - just a safety thing that nobody accidently clicks the link. ; )

This is nothing to really worry about. Nothing malicious has been installed on your computer. All you are seeing is the browser's cache files (the local store of the website files). The file is part of the website, done entirely in JavaScript. It is not harmful to you, except that it uses some of your CPU (just like any other JavaScript on a website). It is, however, a possible annoyance for you, since it is using your computer's CPU to make money for someone else without your permission. You should avoid any website that intentionally uses this tactic. Or alternatively, you should report it to the owner of the website, since it could be a mistake, or some malware that was installed in the website as a result of their website being hacked.
