Search engines - Import Opera WebData
-
Hi,
Is there any trick to import Opera search engines to Vivaldi?
I've been trying to copy/paste them from Opera WebData file to Vivaldi WebData but they are not appearing.
I have many and I would like to avoid to type them or copy/paste each value one by one.
Thank you.

there's no other method that I know of, I've set mine manually if the search site can't be added with context menu "add as search engine" in the search box
-
@zalex108 No, that's not the right place for the topic, because you don't want a modification to the browser, but just a way to move your Opera searches. "All browsers" maybe? You can request a move by flagging your own post for moderation.

because nobody can write in "Vivaldi Browser", you have to choose in which subcategory, for example "all platform" if it's generic or "windows" if it's windows specific, or you are on windows and don't know if it's something generic.

This thread is fine where it is, but you can also add a post to the Feature Requests thread

If any of you tried importing Search engines, is this normal?
But
All my pasted Search engines appears on the internal settings. -
There is a complete mismatch in my case.
In vivaldi://settings manage search engines
I see none of my added search engines.
In the Settings Dialogue
I see Google, but none of the others (I deleted them)
-
I hope that will be fixed.

@gwen-dragon
Thanks.
About add them from the internal page I didn't do it.
I've used an SQLeditor and copy/paste them, then, they appeared in the internal page but not on the common Search settings. -

Oh, found it.
That issue is a unresolved feature wish: VB-23020 "Import search engines from Opera 12"Is there any new about it?
Thank you.

@Gwen-Dragon
Ok,
Thanks for the update. -
@Zalex108 Do you personally know a way to export search engines from opera? If so a mod could be written which takes that input and translates it to Vivaldi. But then again what's the point, don't think many people need this. Can't you just input them manually one time and be done with it and are you seriously waiting almost 2 years to migrate your searches instead of doing it manually? I don't quite understand it.

Jajajaja!!!
I've been playing with V in this 2 years, but I still uses Opera, and I had configured many things since long.
I had to search for some things to achieve some points on Vivaldi and I still.I have many profiles with different Search Engines, around 70 items, some of them are shared between profiles, and they grow.
Yesterday was updating the Default Vivaldi's profile and tried to import the Search Engines, but I had the same result, they appear on Chrome's internal Settings but not on Vivaldi's and did not found a workaround on the Modding SubForum.
A way to Export...?
I just know where SEngines are located on WebData file and how to Edit/Copy/Move them.
But I suppose you also knows that.If a Mod can be created, It will be much appreciated.
I didn't check it, but even, that Mod would work for new users coming from Chrome, Brave, Kiwi or any other Chromium based Browsers.--
I use the following steps, to modify SEngines between profiles on Opera, but as said, on Vivaldi they just appear on Chromium internal Settings.
- SQLiteStudio
- Open Opera Chromium WebData file > Root > Tables
- Modify Data on Keywords.
or - Delete/Copy Keywords branch to the new WebData file > Tables.
This copies the whole data, and I have/want to replicate the same on each related profile.
Would be great if they can be imported to Vivaldi's format and a Dev creates a Mod to do it.
Thank you.

@Zalex108 Vivaldi isn't using the chromium way of storing search engines and I rarely used pre chromium Opera (occasionally as 2nd browser…). Don't think the developers will consider this, unless dozens of users suddenly want it, but what do I know. Have you even posted this in the feature request forum?
-
Not,
I've not asked for it.--
I've just checked to edit WebData - SEngines - Keywords with SQLiteStudio - on some other Browsers and these are the results:
Works on:
- Chrome
- Iridium
- Yandex
- Opera - for the record -
Not Works on:
- Brave
- Sleipnir
- Citrio
- Kiwi - No Pc version found -

So, taking this info in count a request would have more sense, since it would help some other people too.

Despite that, I ask you here:
Would the exported file from the BackUp SEngines Mod be edited and add the entries there?I've not read yet the How to for addin Mods, just took an overall look, but just read that Pathduck has edited the file, a .JSON if I'm not wrong.
If it's editable and reimportable, that would be easier than add lots of engines from V itself?
Thank you.
-
@Zalex108 I would not recommend importing a manually edited file into the application. Only do so if you have backups. And I wonder if that would even be faster than adding them in settings.
-
One update:
Just Googled on export data from SQLite file, and found it would be exported as .CSV or .TXT, would this make any difference? -
@Zalex108 paste an example on pastebin and share a link to it, but it likely can't be used.
