HTML icons and symbols (Emoji Unicode) - bug?
-

Vivaldi laptop
Vivaldi PC
Firefox PC
Where do these differences come from?
-
The latest versions of chrome do support full colour icons, but (on windows at least) only more recent versions, as only they have up to date emoji fonts.
The squares indicate the font isnt installed / isnt loaded, and the black patchy icons look like an older version of the microsoft Segoe Emoji font.
What OSes are you running?
-
Win7, Vivaldi 1.13.1008.3, Firefox 57

@gregor Windows 7 doesn't have the correct font installed by default to support coloured symbol characters (emoji). IT has a basic symbol library, though which is why in some cases you can see them on chrome.
Looking at firefox, it has a completely different font running to the default windows one, so I'm guessing the site you're using downloaded a new font or set of images specifically for that browser. I also know that historically firefox has had better emoji support than chrome (which is the internals of vivaldi).
I'm not sure if there exists a workaround to this other than finding a way to install the updated Segoe Fonts from the latest windows 10 (there may be unscrupulous ways to do this). You would need to get a hold of the latest version to install it, but even then I can't guarantee it will work.
Alternatively, you could try a user agent extension to spoof as firefox, to see if the website will send you the appropriate font / images.

Win 7 can have a update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2729094
There is no Segoe UI Emoji font in this update. I have 12 Segoe fonts in the system but no Emoji.
Can you copy it and share it for me because I can't find it to download? -
I somehow extracted this SEGUIEMJ.TTF from kb4011087 and get:
github.com/eosrei/emojione-color-font & https://github.com/eosrei/emojione-color-font/releases doesn't help more.
-
As far as I know, you need at least Windows 8.1 to get colour font support.
-
Can you show me how does it look like in Win10?
-
@gwen-dragon it's also worse than on Firefox.

I remember Firefox uses an other external or built-in font. https://www.emojione.com
Can it be implemented also in Vivaldi?
-
Ok, thanks.
