Copy & paste has gotten even worse
-
@hlehyaric ... and I hardly ever right-click on the URL bar and that's why I was never really affected by this bug either.
After some more testing... the right-click / Copy does do a reset of sorts; it gets Command-C working again.
-
FYI, some good news: the bug has been reproduced internally. I still have no idea whether this will be a hard glitch to fix or an easy one... but at least we're a step closer.
-
I did my seasonal test to see whether you've fixed the bug on 1.14.1077.55 (Stable channel) (64-bit) (OS X). Didn't take more than five minutes to encounter the bug again.
What I did was:
- Opened a YouTube page.
- Highlighted the url on address bar.
- Copied it with cmd + c.
- Switched to another tab and tried to paste it with cmd + v.
- Nothing happened.
So, it's still there.
Copy + paste does work with a right-click, but I keep forgetting to use that. In any case, copy & paste keyboard shortcuts are supposed to be universal.
This little bug renders the whole Vivaldi browser unusable for me.
Back to Firefox.

@dogma00 The bug for this issue is VB-25997 but I don't have any updates on its current status. I've reminded the Vivaldi team that this is a huge annoyance for some Mac users.
-
I was having this problem for many months on MacOS as well. I got used to just press CMD+C multiple times. But the behavior got worse with the latest updates up to a point that I can't copy & paste anymore without the rightclick menu (and even this doesn't copy reliably). Interestingly I just found out that if I start a new window in privacy mode I can successfully copy paste between the privacy introduction page and the address bar. Even when right clicking in the address bar. But as soon as I try the same with a real webpage it seems that the clipboard of the address bar is detached from the clipboard for the websites that are opened. Like they are two different clipboards.

There are definitely some subtle glitches at play in Vivaldi on macOS. Last week, I pointed out some of the strange bugs that trigger with left-clicks and right-clicks in various parts of the Vivaldi UI and what actions can "reset" Vivaldi to some degree... and a developer was able to confirm these issues. What's actually causing them is another question altogether but at least the bugs are getting some attention.
-
I've had these issues as well. Running macOS 10.13.4 Developer Preview 7 and Vivaldi Snapshot 1.15.1137.3.
I toggled the Reader View on and off and removed all web panels on the sidebar and copy/paste (with Command+C/V) seems to work again; tested both ways with different softwares.
-
Was not a permanent fix and the issue is still there.
-
Hopefully, we can see this fixed soon. As silly as it sounds copy and paste not working reliably has shifted me back to Google Chrome.
(As I am typing this now I can not command + V to paste in a link, but using the context menus works)
Here is a video of the issue for me:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=15OwzmY4bDRPh9plxIHzMaHkBqLOv6MBhThe copy command isn't even registering to the system as occurring (using pbpaste) but every time I can use the Edit -> Copy or Edit -> Paste menu or right-click Copy, right-click Paste.

Hello, this bug is so annoying that I just registered an account here to complain (and that was pain full too => ERROR
Sorry, you are required to wait 240 second(s) before making your first post ... does even this limit makes sense?)I mean, not complain but at least +1
using macos + latest version + no extension + no mac clipboard extension.
Also quite sad that is it not possible to follow the evolution of a bug because the bug tracker is not public. -
@jrmgx The time-out is just spam prevention and unfortunately necessary. Will go away with upvotes. And yeah, the copy/paste thing is a mess.

@jrmgx said in Copy & paste has gotten even worse:

You must think that there is a ton of discussion that goes on in the bug tracker; that's not the case. The next update to the bug will happen when a developer reports that a fix has been implemented. The fix will then get pushed out in a Snapshot build (and hopefully the Stable release as well) very quickly. When the fix is ready, you'll see it right away.
This bug is obviously not a trivial thing to fix... and please also rest assured that I'm doing everything that I can do to make sure that this bug doesn't lose focus.

This night I had a task to copy-paste from Wikipedia to Mail app and this issues came again.
I am using the latest 1.16 SS.
I guess this may be related to way Vivaldi handles the Keyb layout switching using cmd+space (can’t be sure), as I had to switch it many times.
This has to be solved radically. Simply because as a macOS app Vivaldi seems to be not reliable when the copy/paste feature is used. It’s pity, but Vivaldi is the only app that has this issue in my Mac.
I don’t pretend, I use, love and recommend Vivaldi to others. It broke immediately when I used some r-clicking commands (the contextual menu). I think it’s up there, as it works, and then it broke suddenly.
I am aware I am using a snapshot, etc., but „fixed“ should mean „fixed". Please check the non-Roman support once again & this Chromium injected code. Even my Adobe CC suite works perfectly (I mean even when adobe installs after their updates again some imperial US templates over my localized CC setup; whoever types using a language based on the Bulgarian alphabet will understand what I mean). I repeat my Adobe CC does not have this copy/paste issue for many many years.
And, do what’s necessary to fix this. -
I am fairly sure that this is caused by LastPass, which is the only extension I use for Vivaldi on my Macbook, and the poster who screenshotted their extensions earlier in the thread also had LastPass. This would make sense, I wouldn't be surprised if LastPass conflicts with copy-paste functionality in some way.

@scrashman Are you seeing Copy shortcut breaking on the Vivaldi 1.15 Stable release or on the Vivaldi 1.16 Snapshot builds?
On Vivaldi 1.15, a simple right-click on the URL box will break the Copy keyboard shortcut; no extensions required.
So far, to the best of my knowledge, this is no longer broken in Vivaldi 1.16. If you can break Copy/Paste in the latest Snapshot builds, please let us know the steps-to-reproduce. I really, REALLY want to get this fixed.
Thanks!
-
@xyzzy I've been using the 1.15 stable build. Will download the 1.16 snapshot and let you know. I also can confirm that right now, I right-clicked in the address bar and that broke the copy shortcut.
-
I'm using the latest build (1.16.1259.3) and the error is still there.
-
@dfelten Could you please post the steps/actions that break the copy/paste shortcuts for you on the 1.16 Snapshots? I've tried to keep a very close eye on this since the Chromium 67 intake to make sure that this doesn't break again.
Thanks very much!

Aaand you should also know that it is annoying that I must have an advanced password for the vivaldi account since I am not going to use the vivaldi email and only need the account to answer this here, and I also lost this page while I was stressing with all that filling in name and so on to make an account
Copy paste certainly doesn't work on keyboard, I have to use mouse right click. Every time. But yes, I suppose I do left click on a different internet page, copy either by keyboard or mouse right click, then go back, then try to paste and it is not possible with keyboard.
Also the videos in Facebook don't play.
I have Mac OS High Sierrra 10.13.13

This is very erratic, and the copy/paste behavior on my Mac (macOS v 10.13.6) frequently fails through the day or just exhibits strange behavior (sometimes it opens a new browser tab, sometimes it selects the point where I clicked and one line back, erasing the text when I paste, and sometimes just fails to paste at all from the keyboard hotkey). We use ZenDesk as a primary workflow tool, and I notice it occurring regularly in that application. Incredibly annoying, but I like Vivaldi enough to put up with it over switching back to Chrome (where I never noticed this issue) or using Firefox.
