Do you download your music? or take the trouble to get the CD/DVD?

@stardepp I've tried that site. It's great, even got some rare stuff you won't find anywhere else, like live albums and bootlegs.
But let's make it clear; ain't no way that site is legal
-
@Pathduck But I have never been caught using a VPN server. Under Russian law, however, it appears to be legal.

To paraphrase Marx: Russian law is a contradiction in terms.

I also know a legal way to store mp3's. Audials can legally record Spotify and many other streaming services. I have been a beta tester for eight years and have already saved 67000 mp3's.

Streaming is more convenient for me, but I have in the past downloaded lots of music after buying it on bandcamp, and I've ripped music from CDs I've purchased.
I keep a backup of them in a backblaze b2 bucket, and on my streaming service deezer.

I think that digital music is more convenient for me. There are many choices for me: Spotify, Apple Music, Pandoraโฆ I only need a few clicks to get the music I want. And you are free to use this music as you want. I record and convert them to MP3 with TunesKit Audio Capture. It is quite easy!

I buy CDs which I rip to Ogg format. I've heard of some services removing content you downloaded at a later time, while only a few times I'd just prefer to avoid that possibility. I bought it, you can't have it back.

I haven't read all the previous posts, 30 or so. So if it has been mentioned, apologies. But maybe something that should be considered is the artists' compensation download vs. cd. I know with streaming the artist's share is almost nothing compared to cd or vinyl. I'm not sure about with a download but I suspect it isn't much either.
I have friend musicians that have published works and they all say the way the system is now it is hardly even worth it to publish an album that goes to streaming. And I not talking artists just starting out. One friend just had an album at the top of the Billboard Blues for several weeks.
So everything else being equal, if you are deciding CD or not, for the sake of the artist buy the hard copy.

@matonanjin Bandcamp takes a 10-15% commission on sales, which is nothing compared to what the big record companies take when publishing a CD. So if you really want to support independent artists and labels, buy on Bandcamp.

I download my music legally with this software. Mostly I download Mp3's from Spotify or Audials records the Spotify songs from the sound card. I am a beta tester of this software since 2012.
