Vivaldi Repo
-
The Vivaldi repo is at http://repo.vivaldi.com if you want to explore. Vivaldi snapshot should add an appropriate entry to your sources list and the package manager offer automatic updates in future.

Being new to linux, could someone tell me how to add this repo and install vivaldi (and continue to automatically get updates) from the command line? It would be much appreciated it!
-
Distro? It is very different with various distros so it matters if you're using Debian/*buntu, Fedora/Redhat/OpenSUSE, Mandriva/Mageia, PCLinuxOS, etc.
Edit: does not appear to be compatible with Mageia yet.
-
how would i do this on fedora 21?
-
Sorry, I am not very good at linux too, so my question may be a bit stupid, but where is the public key? (allready install with "-nogpgcheck", but really, mustn't yum recieve it automatically?)
(P.s. I'm using Fedora 21 too) -
There is a key over in the Debian branch, http://repo.vivaldi.com/archive/deb/dists/stable/Release.gpg but I can't say with certainty that is the correct one.
-
Fedora sounds like a real pain. When I downloaded the X86 .deb for Lubuntu, it simply installed, registered the repo for Vivaldi, and now updates all by itself.
-
Couldn't tell you, though OpenSUSE (which also uses yum) tends to be pretty good. Mind you, my distro uses urpmi which Vivaldi does not support there …

I am currently using ubuntu. When I install the deb file, does it automatically add the repo for it? I don't ever see that its updating and it seems to be a couple versions behind the latest version of vivaldi
EDIT: I see that I have the stable repo, but how do I get it to update to the most recent snapshot released?

Ah. There IS no stable repo. There is a technical preview, and snapshots. The first Vivaldi version I installed on Lubuntu was a snapshot, and it has uptated with the next snapshot each time I have done a system update. That may be what you're missing. You may need to manually install a snapshot, once. If TP is a separate repo, then your TP will update when the next TP comes out (possibly as early as next week - who knows?)

I think that might have been my confusion. I did not realize that TP and snapshot were different, I thought that snapshots were simply the updates to the TP. Thanks!

There is no final (stable) version yet, but the repository is named "stable" anyway. The snapshots are stored in the very same folder as the previews, just request vivaldi-snapshot instead.
-
I had some trouble figuring out the actual sources line to use, so for anyone else wondering, here it is:
deb http://repo.vivaldi.com/archive/deb/ stable main
-
Can this repo be added to Mageia yet?
-
Mageia do not use zypper. There the package manager: urpmi.
Who oversees the ftp server, first you need to run a "genhdlist2 dir" command. It would create the files necessary for the Mageia
help: man genhdlist2 -
And I am still waiting…

Hello, I didn't see where someone had a nice easy, pre-formatted yum repo file for Fedora, so here is what you need to make it work.
For the preview branch (vivaldi-snapshot and vivaldi-stable options)[vivaldi] name=Fedora $releasever - $basearch failovermethod=priority baseurl=http://repo.vivaldi.com/preview/rpm/x86_64/ enabled=1 metadata_expire=10d gpgcheck=0
Copy everything in the code block to a new file named /etc/yum.repos.d/vivaldi.repo
Run:
dnf install vivaldi-stable
or
dnf install vivaldi-snapshotAnd your vivaldi install will be checked for a new version every 10 days. You can change this frequency by altering the second to last line in the repo file.
-
@samwichse thank you for the YUM/DNF repo config. I've updated it a bit, and (hopefully) it will work with both 32-bit and 64-bit:
[vivaldi] name=Vivaldi RPM Repository for YUM/DNF failovermethod=priority baseurl=http://repo.vivaldi.com/preview/rpm/$basearch/ enabled=1 gpgcheck=0
-
or you could just download and install any of our rpms and the YUM/DNF repo would be setup for you automaticaly to receive updates

Hi, i'm sorry but i've a problem with the debian repository on Deepin Linux. My system see the 1.13 version of Deepin repo, but nothing 2.0 version by Vivaldi repo. I've installed the .deb from Vivaldi site and now the system want to downgrade at 1.13 version. Any solution? Thank you! :3
